Hanoi will announce the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam at the end of February.

The third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam in the 2025-2026 school year in Hanoi is expected to be announced at the end of February 2025.

On the morning of February 20th, information from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training indicated that the Department is urgently finalizing the draft plan for enrollment into the first grades of the 2025-2026 school year, including enrollment for grade 10, to submit to the Hanoi People's Committee.

Admission to 10th grade will be conducted through an entrance exam, consisting of two subjects: Literature and Mathematics; the third subject is expected to be announced at the end of February 2025, immediately after approval by the City People's Committee.

Currently, about 40 provinces and cities have announced the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year, with many localities choosing a foreign language or English as the third subject.

The reason provinces and cities choose English as a subject is to motivate and encourage students to enhance their foreign language learning in the context of international integration and to make English the second language in schools.

The early announcement also helps schools proactively plan their teaching and review sessions starting from the second semester, creating a relaxed and favorable environment for both students and parents.

Nationwide, Ha Giang is currently the only province that has chosen History and Geography as the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam, instead of English.

In Hanoi, the three-subject entrance exam method has been implemented by the city for many years. For the 2024-2025 10th grade entrance exam, Hanoi will hold an exam in three subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language to select students for public schools.

According to Circular No. 30/2024/TT-BGDĐT on the regulations for admission to junior and senior high schools issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on December 30, 2024, high school admissions are organized according to one of three methods: selection based on academic records, entrance examination, or a combination of entrance examination and selection based on academic records.

Under the entrance examination method, students take two subjects: Mathematics and Literature; the third subject is chosen by the Department of Education and Training and announced after the end of the first semester, but no later than March 31st of each year.

However, the Ministry of Education and Training stated that, as directed by the Prime Minister , all provinces and cities are expected to announce the third exam subject in February.
