Hanoi: Many schools announced that students will be off school or study online on October 7.

Based on the stormy weather and forecast of continued rain and gusty winds during the day, early on the morning of October 7, many schools in Hanoi informed students and parents about school closures or switching to online learning.

In the latest news at 5:20 am on October 7 from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the Hanoi area experienced moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing very heavy rain. It is forecasted that in the next 3-6 hours, Hanoi will continue to experience moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall ranging from 40-70mm to very heavy rain over 100mm in some places.

Before 6 a.m. this morning, many schools in the city announced that students would be off school, studying at home, or switching to online learning.

Based on the weather conditions, Phan Dinh Phung High School (Ba Dinh Ward, Hanoi) decided to let students study online all day on October 7 to ensure safety. The school's homeroom teachers informed students and parents before 6:00 a.m. this morning to let students study online.

The High School of Educational Sciences (HES) has also informed all students of the school to switch from in-person learning to online learning according to the schedule on Tuesday, October 7 due to the heavy rain last night and this morning showing no signs of stopping in the city.

For lower grades, many schools have decided to let students stay home.

The principal of Lomonosov My Dinh Primary School (Tu Liem Ward, Hanoi) informed students and parents early this morning that due to extreme weather, bad developments, heavy rain in the early morning, some areas were flooded, the Board of Directors let all students of the school take a day off on October 7 (Tuesday).

The school said that homeroom teachers will continue to guide students in reviewing at home.

In an announcement early this morning, Nhat Tan Primary School (Hong Ha Ward) said, Due to the influence of storm No. 11, there is prolonged heavy rain in the area, posing a risk of flooding and unsafe travel. The school informed all students to stay home on October 7 to ensure their safety.

For teachers and school staff, we will review and fully prepare online teaching conditions, ready to deploy when required; Office staff and security guards will be on duty as assigned to monitor the weather and school facilities.

The school said there will be an announcement about the time to return to school or the temporary form of study.

Previously, on the evening of October 6, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training sent a notice to units about proactively responding to heavy rains caused by the circulation of storm No. 11 (Matmo), requesting school principals and heads of units to base on actual weather developments in the area, conditions of facilities and traffic safety to proactively decide on appropriate forms of teaching and learning (in person, online or adjusting timetables); ensuring absolute safety for students, staff, teachers and employees.
