In the context of a global shift towards promoting sustainable living values, wellness tourism has emerged as an inevitable trend.

Located about 60km from the center of Hanoi , Ba Vi mountain area is famous for its pristine natural landscape, rich medicinal resources, and is an area with great potential and advantages for developing health care tourism.

The harmonious combination of nature, traditional medicine and modern services is bringing attractive resort and health care experiences to visitors to Ba Vi.

Exploiting service development potential

Located in the Northwest, about 2 hours by car from the center of Hanoi, Ba Vi area owns a mountain ecosystem and a 12,000ha National Park.

This place has a cool climate all year round, rich medicinal resources, especially traditional medicine of the Dao ethnic group, very suitable for developing health tourism combined with relaxation, ecology, and experiencing nature.

Located at the foot of Ba Vi mountain, Hop Son village is known as the "tobacco capital" with 80% of Dao ethnic households still maintaining the traditional medicine making profession.

Visitors here can directly experience the activities of picking medicinal herbs, processing leaves for bathing and foot soaking, which are good for health, and at the same time listen to the introduction of folk medicine as a "healing" experience combined with the unique culture of the indigenous people.

Ba Vi is also famous for destinations such as Ba Vi National Park, Ao Vua tourist areas, Khoang Xanh-Suoi Tien and resort systems such as Ba Vi Resort, Amour Resort, Melia Ba Vi Mountain Retreat... All create a closed network of resort-therapy-entertainment services.

As a pioneer in exploiting the health tourism model in Ba Vi area, Ao Vua Joint Stock Company has invested in building Ao Vua Health Care Center on a large scale, providing treatments such as steam bath, herbal bath, moxa steam bath, massage, acupressure... according to traditional medicine methods.

The product packages here include the cost of food, rest and use of herbal bath services, steam bath, moxibustion, body detoxification, acupressure massage... All are performed according to traditional medicine methods, under the guidance of a team of technicians and take place in a quiet, green, relaxing space.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Than, General Director of Ao Vua Joint Stock Company, Chairman of Hanoi Tourism Association said that investing in health care tourism is an inevitable development direction, in line with modern tourism trends.

Health care product packages not only contribute to enriching the tourist experience, but also expand the customer segment, especially the group of tourists with high demand for service quality and health concerns.

In addition, Ba Vi area also owns many typical agricultural products that have been certified as 3-4 star OCOP products such as cow's milk, Ba Trai tea, herbal tea, honey, medicinal herbs, essential oils, etc.

This is a distinct advantage in developing experiential tourism, from farm to table, from clean agriculture to natural health care products.

Invest in specialized services

Mr. Tran Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism, said Ba Vi is one of the city's six key tourist clusters, oriented to become a national tourist area in the near future.

Besides traditional products such as eco-tourism, resorts, entertainment, rural tourism, etc., new tourism products associated with health and sports are also attracting the attention of many businesses investing in Ba Vi.

Hanoi Department of Tourism regularly organizes activities to support businesses in promoting and introducing products at major tourism events, and at the same time connects service establishments in Ba Vi with travel agencies to bring tourists to this area.

However, despite its great potential, most health tourism products in Ba Vi currently only stop at popular services such as massage, acupressure, spa, health care, mineral baths, detoxification... Facilities have not yet formed a model of specialized health care in therapy.

According to Ms. Phan Hoang Mai, Director of DMC ASIA Plus Tourism Company, to develop sustainably and create a unique mark, it is necessary to build a health tourism brand associated with the Ba Vi location.

With a fresh climate, suitable soil and abundant local resources, Ba Vi has all the conditions to develop eco-tourism combined with relaxation and health care.

In particular, here, visitors are served macrobiotic meals made from local ingredients combined with traditional medicines and delicately prepared.

Understanding macrobiotics is also an important factor in helping tourists change their awareness, behavior, and lifestyle, thereby improving their health sustainably.

Mr. Duong Xuan Trang, Product Director of Mai Viet Travel, commented that Ba Vi is an attractive destination for Vietnamese tourists thanks to its advantages of fresh climate, clean green space, diverse accommodation system and suitability for groups of tourists who love being close to nature.

If health tourism is done well, Ba Vi will have a loyal customer base, mainly middle-aged people with high incomes who often choose long vacations combined with relaxation.

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, there are currently about 30 nature-friendly accommodation establishments in the Ba Vi area, but only 5 establishments provide formal health care services.

Therefore, Ba Vi needs to encourage investment in mid-range and high-end resorts, integrating traditional medicine services, with therapists and health care professionals.

In addition, it is necessary to improve the quality of accommodation and food services, especially spas, saunas, and health care facilities that must meet safety and hygiene standards and have a team of professional medical experts. Tourism establishments also need to focus on training human resources through short-term training courses, equipping them with communication skills, first aid, product introduction, etc.

At the same time, people working in tourism need to be equipped with more knowledge about tourism marketing and how to commercialize locally produced health care products (such as herbal extracts, essential oils, medicinal teas, etc.).

To extend the length of stay of tourists, Ba Vi tourism needs to form connecting routes between villages - mineral springs - medicinal herb gardens, creating a complete chain of experiences for tourists.

In particular, it is necessary to promote Ba Vi health tourism on modern media platforms, social networks and e-commerce platforms in the tourism sector, in order to reach potential customers quickly and effectively.

With a harmonious combination of nature, culture and traditional medicine, Ba Vi has all the conditions to become a typical destination for health care tourism.

In the long term, developing tourism associated with health care not only contributes to local economic development, but is also a solution to preserve and promote the unique cultural values of ethnic minorities here./.
