Located in the Champ-de-Mars area, next to the peaceful Seine River, the Eiffel Tower - the symbol of Paris (France), is a world- famous destination loved by tourists.

The Eiffel Tower was built by French engineer Gustave Eiffel, who gave the structure its name. Construction of the tower took 2 years, 2 months and 5 days, from 1887 to 1889, to celebrate the Paris World Exhibition. When completed, it became the tallest structure in the world and held that position for nearly a century.

During more than 2 years of construction, the Eiffel Tower cost more than 800,000 Francs, a huge amount of money at that time, the Eiffel Tower's architecture was considered precise and tight, the combination of drilled holes was close to the design. It is not an exaggeration to say that the Eiffel Tower in Paris is a great miracle in the history of architecture.

Eiffel Tower architecture

According to the original design, the Eiffel Tower in France had an original height of 300 meters, but the new digital antenna on top helped the tower reach a height of 325 meters, equivalent to a 100-story building.

The tower body is made entirely of steel with about 12,000 metal welded parts, which has resulted in the total weight of the tower reaching about 10,000 tons.

The intricate design is a combination of 8,000 metal parts held together by 2.5 million rivets. Despite its enormous weight, the Eiffel Tower is designed in a lattice structure that exudes the lightness of a ballerina. The graceful tower is also known by another name, "The Iron Lady".

The four giant pillars at the base support the entire weight of the tower. Because the weight of the tower is so well distributed throughout the frame, it can withstand the fiercest winds, which is why the Eiffel Tower still exists today.

The Tower stands out with 3 separate floors, each floor will have its own view to help you fully admire the city of Paris.

The first floor of the Eiffel Tower is 57.6 meters high with an area of about 4,200 square meters. The North and West towers are where tickets are sold, while the East and West towers usually have elevators that go up every 8 minutes.

The tower also has a walkway at the base of the eastern tower with a total of about 1,700 steps and can reach the top floor. The remaining southern tower base has an elevator area reserved for staff and diners of the Le Jules-Verne restaurant.

The second floor of the tower is the ideal stop to take in the whole of the magnificent Paris with a height of 115.7 meters and an area of about 1,650 square meters. Visitors can follow the corridor area and observe every corner of the city through telescopes.

In particular, the second floor will feature some historical vestiges of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, such as the original spiral staircase, which has now been renovated and disassembled.

The top floor of the tower is 276.1 meters high with an area of about 350 square meters. Because it is so high, it is mainly a gallery and an observatory. When the sky is clear, visitors can both admire the city of light and learn about interesting things in the sky through telescopes.

Special things about the Eiffel Tower

In addition to its outstanding height, the Eiffel Tower also contains special things that not all tourists know.

The Eiffel Tower is used by some TV channels and mobile networks as a broadcasting station, so right at the top of the tower there is an antenna pole, making the tower's height up to 324m.

Every 7 years, the symbol of France gets a new coat of paint, each time consuming about 60 tons of paint. Initially, the tower was painted yellow, from 1953 to 1961, people used reddish brown for this structure.

In winter, the height of the tower will decrease by 10-20cm, because the temperature drop causes the steel to shrink.

The Eiffel Tower attracts 7 million visitors each year, of which more than 80% are foreign tourists.

At night, every 5 minutes, the tower changes color by about 20,000 lights and 336 projectors, making it much more beautiful and sparkling.

Controversial project

The Eiffel Tower is the most controversial structure in Paris. No resident of the French capital in the late 19th century could have been indifferent to the appearance of the Eiffel Tower. While it was under construction, the tower received many detractors.

Many artists believe that this massive steel structure is ugly and strange, and will be a black mark on the Paris sky. A group of architects and scholars even signed a document protesting the construction of the tower.

However, the Eiffel Tower was eventually completed and quickly became a success, becoming one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the world.

The Eiffel Tower has been a source of inspiration for many authors and artists. It has appeared in many works of art, photography, literature, cinema and television.
