Nearly 2,300 officials and teachers were mobilized to participate in grading the exams.

Starting on June 2nd, the Hanoi Grade 10 entrance exam grading council for the 2026-2027 school year officially began its initial work. To ensure progress and quality, the city has mobilized nearly 2,300 officials and teachers to participate in various stages of the grading committee.

The Examination Board is established by the Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (GDĐT), and consists of a chairman who is a leader of the Department; vice-chairmen who are leaders of the Department or leaders of specialized departments; along with a team of secretaries, examiners, police officers, medical staff, security guards, and support personnel.

According to Mr. Nghiem Van Binh, Head of the Examination Management and Educational Quality Assurance Department (Hanoi Department of Education and Training), the city began implementing the initial steps of grading the 10th grade entrance exams for the 2026-2027 school year on June 2nd. With nearly 124,000 candidates, mobilizing experienced staff and teachers is considered crucial to ensuring the grading process proceeds on schedule and objectively.

According to the plan, the marking of multiple-choice exams will be carried out from June 1st to 10th, while the marking of essay exams will be done from June 2nd to 10th. The Examination Marking Committee will work continuously during this period and submit daily progress reports to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.

This year's entrance exam consists of three subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language. Mathematics and Literature exams are essay-based, while the Foreign Language exam is multiple-choice.

To ensure consistency in grading, immediately after receiving the grading guidelines, grading sheets, and related documents, the Grading Committee organizes a meeting of subject heads to explain the regulations and standardize the application of the answer key and scoring rubric before proceeding with mass grading. This is a crucial step to minimize discrepancies in scoring among examiners, especially for essay-based exams.

According to regulations, examiners grading essay exams must be teachers familiar with the secondary school curriculum, while examiners responsible for grading multiple-choice exams must be proficient in using specialized software.

Ensuring safety and security in every stage of the grading process.

Along with preparing human resources, security is a top priority for Hanoi's education sector. According to regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training, all stages of marking, storing, handing over, and organizing the grading process are carried out in a closed system.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training stated that this year's exam grading process has been meticulously prepared to ensure safety, objectivity, and confidentiality. The Grading Committee is responsible for developing a work plan, assigning tasks, organizing grading, matching answer sheets, compiling scores, handling unforeseen situations, and archiving records in accordance with regulations.

The location for the Examination Board was selected based on its full compliance with requirements regarding facilities and security. The rooms containing exam papers, the rooms for grading essay exams, and the rooms for grading multiple-choice exams are all equipped with security cameras that record continuously 24 hours a day, as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Those involved in grading exams must strictly adhere to regulations and are prohibited from bringing unauthorized equipment into the work area. For multiple-choice exams, all data is centrally managed and processed using specialized software to ensure the accuracy of the results.

Given the highly competitive nature of the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi, every aspect of the score can directly impact a candidate's chances of admission. Therefore, the requirements for the grading process are not only to complete it on schedule but also to ensure the highest level of accuracy and fairness.

After completing the grading process, the Grading Council will conduct data comparison, technical review, and finalize the results before submitting them to the competent authority for approval. The exam scores and admission cutoff scores for grade 10 in the 2026-2027 school year are expected to be announced between June 19th and 22nd on the Hanoi Department of Education and Training's website and other official city information channels.

To alleviate the pressure of enrollment in 10th grade, in the 2026-2027 school year, Hanoi will put three newly built high schools into operation: Hoang Quan Chi High School, Viet Hung High School, and Minh Chau High School. In addition, two schools will switch to the city-wide admissions system based on entrance exam scores: Hoang Cau High School and Le Loi High School - Ha Dong.

According to Nguyen Van Hien, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the city is continuing to review land resources to develop more public schools in rapidly growing population areas. However, he also hopes parents understand that the best learning environment for their children is one that suits their abilities. Public schools are not the only option. After junior high school, in addition to high schools, Hanoi has many other school models, such as vocational education and continuing education centers and vocational schools.
