These days, the Tài Lý garden of Mr. Phạm Đức Tài's family (Mê Linh commune) is always bustling with customers buying flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year). This year, the garden expects to supply more than 500 potted ornamental and bonsai flowers to the market. The price of each potted flower ranges from a few hundred thousand dong to several million dong, and some bonsai rose bushes even cost tens of millions of dong.

Mr. Pham Duc Tai shared: “Having been involved in flower cultivation for many years, I understand the characteristics of each type of flower and can proactively take care of them. About 45 days before the Lunar New Year, I focus on pruning branches, shaping, removing secondary buds, and adjusting the shade netting to provide sufficient sunlight for the flowers. It is expected that during the 2025 Lunar New Year, this flower garden will bring in a profit of over 300 million VND for my family.”

The main roads leading into Tich Loc commune (Phuc Tho district) are always bustling with people buying Tet flowers. Gardeners compete to display their most beautiful products in easily visible locations so that buyers can freely admire and choose.

Mr. Kieu Binh Thanh, owner of two large flower gardens in Tich Loc commune, said that by this time, his family had sold 50% of the flowers prepared for Tet. Compared to last year, when customers only came around the 27th, 28th, and 29th of Tet, this year people bought flowers earlier and in larger numbers. This Tet season, Mr. Thanh's family brought to the market more than 200,000 flowers of various decorative and ground cover varieties such as: gerberas, chrysanthemums, peonies, petunias, etc.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen (Residential Group No. 2, Tay Tuu Ward), who grows 3 sao (approximately 0.3 hectares) of dahlias and violets, said that this year, due to the impact of typhoon No. 3, many flower garden owners have rushed to plant. The advantage is that the weather has been quite favorable in recent months, helping the flowers grow and develop well. This season, the flowers are beautiful and sell well, so her family has a good income. However, to have a successful flower crop, growers have to stay up and sleep with the flowers, closely monitoring the unusual weather developments to avoid missing the opportunity and losing the harvest.

Wide variety of products, slightly increased prices.

According to Do Nghia, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tich Loc commune, the commune currently has nearly 200 hectares of flowers and ornamental plants. This year, the average price of flowers is higher than last year. Notably, the commune has many models of growing lilies and trumpet lilies that generate income from 1.5 to 1.7 billion VND/hectare; chrysanthemum models generate about 1 billion VND/hectare; and various types of ground cover and decorative flowers generate income from 1 to 1.5 billion VND/hectare in just 3 months. Some gardeners even earned 300-500 million VND during Tet (Lunar New Year), with some households earning billions of VND.

According to the leaders of Tay Tuu Ward People's Committee, along with growing common flowers such as roses, chrysanthemums, lilies, gladioli, etc., many households have boldly invested capital to plant new flower varieties, applying high technology to production, bringing high economic value and being favored by the market. Tay Tuu is in the process of becoming a flower-growing urban area; therefore, to maintain and develop the traditional flower-growing profession, Bac Tu Liem District and Hanoi City have planned Tay Tuu as a high-quality flower-growing area, supplying fresh flowers to the capital and neighboring localities.

Market surveys show that many shop owners have already imported various types of flowers and ornamental plants to sell for Tet (Lunar New Year). According to a survey by reporters from the Economic & Urban Newspaper, the number of people visiting and shopping at flower markets and Tet flower displays is quite high. The quantity of flowers and ornamental plants is increasing daily, with a wide variety of styles and designs, from potted plants and hanging baskets to tabletop plants and hydroponic plants, attracting many customers. This year, the prices of all types of flowers have increased compared to previous years. Many types of flowers, such as kumquats, peach blossoms, and lilies, are scarce.

Assessing the market for Tet (Lunar New Year) flowers in 2025, the Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nguyen Xuan Dai, said that the prices of many types of flowers and ornamental plants have increased compared to last year, due to the impact of rain and storms on the supply of many types of flowers. However, the market supply is also quite diverse, so people have many different choices.

Previously, the Hanoi agricultural sector proactively surveyed flower-growing areas and directed the restoration of production. For flowers and ornamental plants that could not be replanted in time, alternative varieties were planted. The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also coordinated with other departments, agencies, and localities to promote the consumption of flowers and ornamental plants during the upcoming Lunar New Year.

The Hanoi People's Committee has directed the Department of Industry and Trade to take the lead and coordinate with other departments, agencies, and the People's Committees of districts, towns, and communes to organize 70 spring flower markets from January 8, 2025 (the 9th day of the 12th lunar month) to 8 PM on January 28, 2025 (the 29th day of the 12th lunar month). Products on display will include flowers, plants, ornamental fruits, handicrafts, and other products for the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake.
