On the afternoon of September 11 at Nguyen Du Gymnasium (HCMC), 7th seed Nguyen Hai Dang (ranked 63rd in the world ) created a dramatic comeback against Mithun Manjunath (India, ranked 111th) to win the right to enter the quarterfinals of the Super 100 Tournament - Vietnam Open 2025.
In set 1, the player born in 2000 started well but was quickly overtaken by his opponent with a long streak of points, losing 12-21. In set 2, despite a difficult start, Hai Dang gradually took advantage of Manjunath's fatigue, persevering with a persistent style of play, interspersed with powerful smashes. He maintained his focus at the decisive moment and won 21-17, equalizing the score 1-1.

In set 3, Hai Dang showed his brilliance, Manjunath on the contrary showed signs of fatigue, having to run all over the court to save the shuttlecock. Vietnam's number 1 tennis player comfortably deployed a varied playing style, continuously scoring points to widen the gap.
Despite letting his opponent close the gap at the end of the match, Hai Dang still managed to finish the set 21-18, winning 2-1 overall. Hai Dang's opponent in the quarterfinals will be Chinese player Wang Zijun (ranked 159).
Compared to the 2024 season, when he stopped against Shogo Ogawa in the second round, Hai Dang's performance this year has improved, at the same time helping him accumulate more important points on the BWF rankings. Hai Dang is also the only male tennis player from Vietnam to go far in the men's singles event this year of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the women's singles match of defending champion Nguyen Thuy Linh took place with surprise in set 1. Kisona Selvaduray took advantage of Thuy Linh's lack of feeling to quickly create a gap, then won 21-14.

In set 2, Thuy Linh regained her form, played steadily and created a big gap right from the start, to easily win 21-12 when her opponent proactively saved her energy for the deciding game.
Set 3 witnessed Selvaduray's physical decline, Thuy Linh did not miss the opportunity, dominating to close the match with a score of 21-10.
In the end, Nguyen Thuy Linh came from behind to beat Kisona Selvaduray 2-1 (14-21, 21-12, 21-10) to win a ticket to the quarterfinals of Vietnam Open 2025. Thuy Linh's opponent will be Thai tennis player Thamonwan Nithiittikrai (ranked 80th in the world).
