Farmers in Bach Dang commune (Kinh Mon) harvest summer-autumn rice to free up land for winter crops.

Thanh Mien district has harvested 74.8% of the winter-spring rice area, the fastest in the province; followed by Kinh Mon town with 73.7%, Nam Sach with 67.3%...

In the harvested rice areas, taking advantage of the dry weather, farmers in the province have been concentrating on preparing the land to plant winter vegetables. By the end of October 7, the whole province had planted 5,673 hectares of various winter vegetables, reaching 26.2% of the plan.

The progress of winter carrot planting this year is similar to the same period last year. In the photo: Farmers in Cam Van commune (Cam Giang) water and keep the newly planted carrot area moist.

Notably, 1,165 hectares of garlic and onions have been planted (an increase of 205 hectares compared to the same period last year), and 593 hectares of carrots have been planted (equivalent to the same period). Farmers across the province have planted 1,717 hectares of various leafy vegetables to meet market demand. Kim Thanh, Nam Sach, Gia Loc, and Tu Ky are localities with rapid progress in planting winter crops.

However, in general, the progress of winter crop planting in Hai Duong this year is still slower than last year due to the impact of the recent storms. In many places, farmers have to replant kohlrabi, cabbage, and carrots that died due to flooding. In some areas, the land is still wet and planting is not possible...

Farmers in Hung Dao commune (Tu Ky) cultivate the early winter cauliflower area.

The agricultural sector recommends that farmers urgently harvest the early and mid-season rice fields that have ripened; ensure adequate water supply for the late-season rice fields to flower and become firm; pay attention to monitoring forecasts and providing timely guidance on preventing stem rot, neck blast and brown planthoppers in late-season rice fields. Focus on taking good care of and providing adequate irrigation water for the winter crop fields that have been planted. Accelerate the expansion of the area of key crops such as carrots, onions, garlic, cabbage, kohlrabi, cauliflower, mustard greens, etc., ensuring that the winter crop area exceeds the plan by about 5% of the planned area.
