Hai Phong: Kindergarten teacher checks child's sensitive area, causing outrage

A kindergarten teacher in Hai Phong was accused by parents of checking a student’s private parts in front of the whole class. The female teacher was later fired, and the school had to publicly apologize to the parents.

School publicly apologizes to parents

On April 9, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Phong City confirmed that a teacher at Ong Xinh House Kindergarten ( An Duong District) had her labor contract terminated after she checked the sensitive area of a 3-year-old child in the classroom, causing outrage on social networks and local public opinion.

Previously, on April 4, the Facebook account of a high school parent (ZFS’s mother) posted an article denouncing teacher D.KC (teacher of Kindergarten 1) at Ong Xinh House Kindergarten (An Dong Ward, An Duong District) for behavior that was not in accordance with pedagogical standards. Specifically, the parent reported that the teacher had checked her child’s genitals during class, right in the common room when other children were present.

The information then spread quickly on social networks, causing outrage among the public and the parent community.

Immediately after receiving the feedback, the People's Committee of An Duong District directed the Department of Education and Training to coordinate with the People's Committee of An Dong Ward to work with the school, the investor and the parents of the students to verify the incident. Through clarification, the authorities confirmed that at 4:15 p.m. on March 28, teacher D.KC performed the act of checking the private area of child S. while other children were present in the class.

The Department of Education and Training of An Duong District determined that the teacher's behavior lacked pedagogical skills and was not in accordance with regulations on sexeducation for young children.

Immediately afterwards, Sakura Kids Education Development Joint Stock Company - Grand Tower Branch, the school's investor, decided to terminate the labor contract with Ms. D.KC.

At the meeting with parents, the school, investor and teachers admitted their mistakes, publicly apologized, and committed to implementing a series of measures to improve professional supervision, invite psychologists and doctors to assess and monitor the health and psychological status of children.

Authorities tighten management

After the above incident, An Duong District authorities requested that functional agencies strengthen inspection and supervision to avoid similar cases from recurring.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of An Duong District continues to focus on directing Ong Xinh House Kindergarten to review the entire process of child care and education; strengthen inspection and supervision of implementation content; send a written commitment to parents; accurately communicate the incident, and mobilize parents to remove posts on the social networking site Facebook.

An Dong Ward People's Committee strengthens propaganda work, guides public opinion, and coordinates with schools to stabilize operations.

At the same time, the Department of Education and Training coordinated with the People's Committees of wards to focus on reviewing all preschools in the district, organizing professional activities on professional ethics, child care skills and handling sensitive situations in accordance with regulations.
