The Viettel R&D Center project is built on an area of 13 hectares in Hoa Lac High-Tech Park, expected to be completed in 2030. This is a key R&D center, including the entire process of research, design, testing and production of high-tech products and military equipment. When completed, the center is expected to attract 2,500 high-quality personnel.
The new data center is built on an area of 1.9 hectares, with a design capacity of 60 MW, designed according to Uptime Tier III standards. The center is expected to operate phase 1 from the second quarter of 2026, and is expected to become the largest data center in the North. By 2030, Viettel expects this DC to be upgraded to the group's second Hyperscale Data Center.
“The two projects will be guaranteed safe throughout the construction and operation process, not only as modern research infrastructure today but also as a sustainable foundation for future generations,” said Lieutenant General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group.
According to a report by the Ministry of Science and Technology in May, Vietnam has 41 commercial data centers operating nationwide, belonging to 12 enterprises, with a total designed capacity of 221 MW.
Corporations in Vietnam are also continuously building new DCs. In April, Viettel also started construction of a data center in Ho Chi Minh City with a designed capacity of 140 MW, among the top 10 in Southeast Asia.
This DC will operate in the first phase from the first quarter of 2026. When completed, this is expected to be the first data center in Vietnam to reach a capacity of over 100 MW.
