According to data from Russian authorities, in the first half of 2025, Russians made approximately 13.6 million trips to 138 countries, a 7.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Of these, the top 30 most popular foreign tourist destinations for Russians alone received around 8.7 million visitors, a 12.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024 for this group of countries.

After six months of 2025, the top five destinations for Russian tourists were Türkiye, the UAE, China, Thailand, and Egypt. Notably, Vietnam rose to 7th place in the top 10 most popular tourist destinations for Russians in the first half of this year, up from 9th place last year. Vietnam, along with Japan, was one of the fastest-growing markets for Russian tourists in the first six months of the year.

According to the Association of Russian Travel Agencies (ATOR), the number of Russian tourists visiting Vietnam has increased significantly due to large-scale charter flights organized by Russian travel companies to Vietnam, and the relatively affordable price of connecting flights via China has also made it easier for Russian tourists. After the first half of 2025, 41.1% of Russians arrived in Vietnam on direct flights from the Russian Federation, and 58.9% arrived via connecting flights through other countries.

Statistics from Vietnam show that Vietnam welcomed 259,849 Russian tourists in the first six months of 2025, while the total number of Russian tourists in 2024 was only 232,300. In the first seven months of 2025, Vietnam received 315,138 Russian tourists, reaching 256% of the figure for the same period last year. With this growth, Russia is now among the top 10 largest sources of international tourists for Vietnam.

Recently, Aeroflot (Russia) announced the launch of a direct flight route between Irkutsk and Cam Ranh (Vietnam) starting September 5th, initially with a frequency of two flights per week. According to the airline's plan, the frequency on the Irkutsk - Cam Ranh route will be increased to three flights per week from October 6th and possibly four flights per week from October 29th. In addition, Aeroflot will launch regular direct flights from Yekaterinburg (Koltsovo Airport) to Nha Trang, Vietnam on September 29th with a frequency of two flights per week, using wide-body aircraft. The airline also plans to operate flights to Nha Trang from two other Russian cities: Novosibirsk (from September 30th) and Vladivostok (from October 1st).

After the first half of 2025, many long-haul destinations for Russian tourists will see a slight decline in the number of visitors, such as Türkiye, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Cuba... The main reason is said to be due to a decrease in the number of direct flights, not a decrease in demand from Russian tourists.
