According to the Vietnam Railway Authority, at around 10:30 a.m. on May 26, while workers were clearing soil and rocks from the landslide in the Chi Thanh railway tunnel and taking them outside, a large amount of soil and rocks from the landslide on May 21 continued to collapse in this area. The Railway Industry and Management Board 85, Ministry of Transport are looking for solutions to fix the landslide .
At this time, a large amount of rock and soil collapsed, blocking a section of the Chi Thanh railway tunnel. This incident caused the drill bit to tilt, tilting the hoist that placed the drilling machine from the top of the tunnel. Since noon on May 26, the Chi Thanh railway tunnel incident response team has been directly surveying the collapsed area, and continues to discuss more effective solutions to overcome the problem.
Previously, on May 21, a landslide occurred in the Chi Thanh railway tunnel, burying two official carriages in the ground. The volume of the landslide was up to 260m3 and the area of the sinkhole was much larger than that of the Bai Gio tunnel ( Khanh Hoa province), so the workload was much larger. After the Chi Thanh railway tunnel landslide occurred, the leaders of the Ministry of Transport directed the Vietnam Railway Authority and related units to urgently fix the problem and clear the tunnel as soon as possible. In recent days, the leaders of the Vietnam Railway Authority have always been present at the scene to direct the work to fix the Chi Thanh railway tunnel landslide.
By the morning of May 26, the relevant units had cleared about 80 cubic meters of soil in this railway tunnel, but a large amount of soil and rock continued to collapse. Thus, the original plan to clear the tunnel had to be postponed until the repair was completed.
