According to Al Jazeera on October 7, after the second day of indirect negotiations with Israel in Egypt ended, Hamas officials said they were seeking assurances that Israel would end the war in Gaza and withdraw its troops from the strip as part of US President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza.
Senior Qatari and US officials have left for Egypt for talks scheduled to continue on October 8.

Senior Hamas official Fawzi Barhoum said their negotiators were seeking an end to the conflict and a "complete withdrawal" from Gaza.
However, Mr Trump's plan is vague about Israel's withdrawal, giving no specific timeline for the phased deployment, which would only take place after Hamas releases the 48 Israeli hostages it is still holding, 20 of whom are believed to be still alive.

A senior Hamas official said after talks on October 7 that they intend to release hostages in stages, depending on the Israeli military's withdrawal from Gaza.
"The second talks focused on determining the timing of Hamas' release of Israeli hostages and drawing up a roadmap for the withdrawal of Israeli forces," the Hamas official said, stressing that the release of the last Israeli hostages must coincide with the final Israeli withdrawal.
Hamas's top negotiator, Khalil al-Hayya, added that Hamas wanted real guarantees that the fighting would end and not resume, accusing Israel of violating two previous ceasefires in the Gaza conflict.
