On March 11, the administration of South Korean President Choi Sang Mok announced that President Donald Trump's "America First" policy had begun targeting South Korea.

Mr. Choi said that South Korea is holding discussions with the U.S. on tariff measures, as well as strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy and shipbuilding sectors before the retaliatory tariffs take effect on April 2.
This move comes after President Trump threatened to impose retaliatory tariffs on all of America's trading partners globally starting April 2nd.
"The South Korean government will consider national interests and respond with 'a cool head and flexibility,' while devoting all its efforts to finding a mutually beneficial agreement between South Korea and the United States," Choi said at a cabinet meeting on March 11.
The statement from South Korea comes amid a number of internal crises in the country, with growing public concern about the possibility of violent conflict following the Constitutional Court's "important ruling" on impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Regarding US tariffs, Japanese Trade Minister Yoji Muto announced on March 10 that he had requested an exemption from US trade tariffs.
In an effort to persuade Trump to exempt Japanese cars and other products from tariffs, Muto and other senior Japanese officials emphasized that Tokyo is a close economic partner, has invested heavily in the US economy, and has created millions of jobs.
However, Muto said he had received no commitments from Washington, including regarding the 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum scheduled to take effect on March 12, according to Reuters.
"We have not received any response that Japan will be exempt," Muto said after a meeting with U.S. officials in Washington.
The Japanese side revealed that Washington has acknowledged the contributions of Japanese businesses to the US economy, but did not elaborate on the position of its American counterparts.
