South Korea will establish a task force to prepare for APEC 2025.

The official announcement of the election of Gyeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province as the host city for the 2025 Asia -Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit is expected to be announced on June 27.

This is the first time in 20 years that Korea has hosted the APEC Summit since the successful APEC Summit held in Busan in 2005, so Gyeongju city is actively preparing for this event.

North Gyeongsang Province leaders said that as the host city of the APEC Summit to be held in South Korea in November 2025, Gyeongju is making preparations so that the event's organizing committee can operate immediately after the official announcement.

The city will set up a task force to prepare for APEC and develop implementation plans for each sector for immediate implementation. Top priorities are housing renovation and environmental protection projects.

Gyeongju residents have also expressed their willingness to actively participate in preparations for the event, with banners commemorating the APEC Summit erected in Gyeongju and other areas of North Gyeongsang Province starting June 21.

Gyeongju City has been running to host the 2025 APEC Summit since July 2021 along with Seoul, Jeju and Busan, but Busan announced its withdrawal midway.
