On the afternoon of July 1, the 10th term Ho Chi Minh City People's Council held its first session.

Attending the meeting were Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Dang Minh Thong, along with leaders and former leaders of the People's Council and People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau , and Binh Duong (old).

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Vo Van Minh - the new Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council - stated that from today, Ho Chi Minh City after the merger will continue to take pioneering and breakthrough steps in reforming the organizational apparatus and urban government, creating favorable conditions for the rapid and sustainable development of the most urbanized region in the country, aiming at the goal of an effective and substantive government service.

Immediately after announcing the resolutions and decisions of the Central and local governments on merging administrative units, establishing party organizations and appointing personnel for Ho Chi Minh City, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council urgently organized the first meeting. This is a very special case at an extremely meaningful moment, marking the transition of Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country to a two-level local government model from July 1.

The new Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council sent his greetings to more than 200 new Ho Chi Minh City People's Council delegates, who were elected as delegates by voters of Binh Duong , Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and Ho Chi Minh City before the merger.

Mr. Minh believes that the delegates will continue to bring the thoughts, will, aspirations and legitimate interests of voters to participate in specific decisions and make important contributions to the political system of Ho Chi Minh City.

The new Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council acknowledged that, in addition to the basic advantages, there are still many difficulties and challenges. This requires the 10th Ho Chi Minh City People's Council to continue to consolidate its organization and strongly innovate its working methods, maximize the intellectual capacity, enthusiasm of each delegate and collective strength to solve major issues, strategic issues, and breakthroughs for the city's development, socio-economic development, and improvement of the material and spiritual life of the people.

On the very first day of merging into the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, the first task was to perfect the apparatus of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council and People's Committee.

At this session, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council will announce key leadership positions of the city government, decide to establish specialized agencies under the People's Committee, committees of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, and decide to establish the Office of the National Assembly Delegation and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council.

At the same time, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council will consider the decision on organizing regular sessions in 2025 of the 10th People's Council.
