Today (January 9), the University of Transport in collaboration with Southwest Jiaotong University (China) organized an international conference on: "Construction of high-speed railways in Vietnam and China's experience".

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Hung - Rector of the University of Transport said that the workshop gathered prestigious scientists and experts in the railway field from Southwest University of Transport - the leading school in high-speed railways in China, the University of Transport, scientists and alumni of the University who are working in the field of high-speed railways from Europe.

The workshop attracted domestic and foreign experts to share their experiences in building high-speed railways.

"The objective of the workshop is to summarize the successful lessons of China's high-speed railway system, thereby suggesting optimal technical solutions applicable to the high-speed railway project on the North-South axis, a key national project of Vietnam in the current period," the President of the University of Transport emphasized.

At the workshop, core technical issues of high-speed railways such as: Experience in building a high-speed railway standard system in China; technical solutions in handling high-speed railway foundations in China and Europe; issues of selecting railway structures and vehicles, issues of train-rail contact; control-signal solutions, electrification in high-speed railways, and other important scientific and technical issues were informed and frankly discussed, clarifying many modern, complex and interdisciplinary technical issues, helping to consolidate the scientific and technical foundation and take a solid step towards establishing a position of mastering the core technology of high-speed railways in Vietnam.

A group of lecturers from the University of Transport presented a study of technical proposals for the North-South high-speed railway project. According to the group, China's experience shows that for distances under 800km, high-speed rail is suitable, and for distances over 1,000km, air travel is recommended.

High-speed railways when deployed in Vietnam need to pay attention to issues such as weak ground, weather factors and sunlight. The research team of Dr. Trinh Viet Nam (Republic of France) focuses on the design of high-speed railway foundations in France, England and recommendations for Vietnam.

Dr. Trinh Viet Nam proposed three contents: selecting technology, high-speed railway surface structure, establishing a set of high-speed railway technical standards, and training human resources, attracting talents for the railway industry.

After the workshop, a short-term training course on high-speed railway design co-organized by the University of Transport and Southwest University of Transport attracted the participation of more than 100 engineers and researchers from universities and enterprises; providing useful knowledge on high-speed railway standards, foundation design, superstructure, high-speed railway bridges and tunnels according to Chinese and European standards, meeting the practical knowledge needs of the Vietnamese railway industry in the current period.
