The Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon Expressway is the largest of the 12 component projects of the North-South Expressway (eastern section), with an investment of over 20,000 billion VND, in the 2021-2025 period. Construction began on January 1, 2023.

Spanning over 88 km, the project passes through four districts and towns in Quang Ngai province and Hoai Nhon town (Binh Dinh province). Despite facing numerous difficulties in the initial construction phase, the project's progress has been quite positive thanks to the efforts and cooperation of relevant agencies, units, and localities.

On January 1st, according to observations by Thanh Niên reporters, after a year of construction, the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway project is gradually taking shape.
The Ve River bridge, connecting Mo Duc and Tu Nghia districts (Quang Ngai province), is the largest bridge on the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway, with a length of 610m. All 134 bored piles have been completed. The contractor has constructed 13 out of 16 foundations and piers, 12 out of 14 pier bodies, and 55 out of 105 bridge girders, meeting the planned schedule.

Among the critical path items that significantly impacted the project, the three tunnels through the mountains accounted for a considerable proportion, but the construction unit (Deo Ca Group) completed both tunnels No. 1 and No. 2 ahead of schedule. As for tunnel No. 3, the largest tunnel through the mountains on the North-South expressway, which is being newly constructed with a length of 3,200m, nearly 900m of both tunnel tubes have now been completed.
The tunnel opening has shortened the time and distance for transporting materials and coordinating manpower to the construction site north of tunnel number 3 compared to the original plan. Previously, construction had to take a detour around treacherous and unsafe mountain roads.

Mr. Bui Nhat Hien, Director of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon Expressway Project Management Board (Project Management Board 2, Ministry of Transport ), said that there were times when it seemed the project's progress would not meet the planned schedule, but by the end of 2023, the critical path components of the project had basically been completed and ensured.
"To achieve the results after a year of construction, contractors along the route mobilized 44 out of 45 construction teams with more than 3,050 personnel and 1,161 machines and equipment, organizing construction in three shifts. Specifically for the tunnel construction, engineers and workers worked continuously 24/7 without rest," Mr. Hien informed.
The road surface on the highway is gradually taking shape.
Representatives of Deo Ca Group stated that this is a large-scale project with complex construction work, so before starting implementation, they had made thorough preparations in terms of resources, machinery, equipment, personnel, finances, and especially coordination with other contractors in the consortium. To date, the completed work has reached over 12% of the total volume.
To date, the contractor has completed over 12% of the total work.
Mr. Le Thang, Director of Project Management Board 2 (the investor), highly praised the Deo Ca contractor for implementing the project with determination and working in 3 shifts and 4 teams. He also commended their many innovative initiatives in the project's construction.
"The results achieved after one year of project implementation are the result of efforts from many sides. In the coming time, Project Management Board 2 and the contractor Deo Ca will continue to implement effective construction measures to ensure the project's timeline is shortened, and it will be put into service for the people and society as soon as possible," Mr. Thang said.
