According to information from Tri Thuc - Znews , the report was submitted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to the Prime Minister on October 10. It clearly stated that "Coach Kim Sang-sik directed his students to compete excellently, win the Gold Medal and maintain the leading position in the region".
Under the guidance of the Korean strategist, U23 Vietnam demonstrated a modern, cohesive and effective playing style. The team passed the group stage with two convincing victories over Laos and Cambodia, defeating the Philippines in the semi-finals to qualify for the final.
In the final match on July 29, U23 Vietnam defeated host Indonesia 1-0 thanks to the only goal of Nguyen Cong Phuong, ending a perfect journey. This is the third consecutive time U23 Vietnam has won the regional championship, thereby continuing to affirm the strength and bravery of the country's youth football.
In addition to coach Kim Sang-sik, four assistant coaches were also proposed for awards, including assistants Yoon Dong-hun, Lee Jung-soo, Lee Woon-jae (all Korean nationals) and Cedric Serge Christian Roger (French national).
The Korean strategist's associates are considered to have made important contributions in building tactics, analyzing opponents and supporting the head coach in training. Among them, Mr. Lee Jung-soo, the team's number one assistant, takes on the role of a bridge between the head coach, players and other members, contributing greatly to the smooth operation of the entire team.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism emphasized that the championship of U23 Vietnam is "the result of the spirit of solidarity, strong will, discipline and high determination of the team, along with the skillful leadership and reasonable tactics of coach Kim Sang-sik".
Previously, U23 Vietnam received a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister for winning the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship right after returning from Indonesia. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also commended the team and individuals with outstanding contributions.
Currently, coach Kim Sang-sik and the Vietnamese team are preparing for the return match against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Meanwhile, the U23 Vietnam team, under the leadership of acting coach Dinh Hong Vinh, is training in the UAE and preparing for the second friendly match with U23 Qatar.
