Mbappe fell in the penalty area |
Osasuna coach Alessio Lisci analyzed the penalty situation in which referee Adrián Cordero judged Juan Cruz to have fouled Kylian Mbappe, leading to the only goal of the match. He said that when he watched it live, it “looked very clear”, but when he watched it again, he saw Mbappe “stepping” on Juan Cruz.
“We need to see if it was really a penalty,” Lisci said at a press conference. “I saw it clearly, but afterwards it looked like Mbappé stepped on Juan, and then Juan kicked him.”
According to Opta , since the 2016/17 season, Real Madrid has been awarded the most penalties in La Liga with 85, far surpassing the second-placed teams Valencia and Villarreal (both with 70).
Lisci also mentioned the red card Abel Bretones received in stoppage time for a foul on Gonzalo Garcia. Lisci hoped there would be no harsh punishment for his student after confirming that he reviewed the situation and found it not worthy of a red card.
"The referees said that blood was coming from Gonzalo. Yes, there was a chest thrust and a little bit of arm swinging… but for me it was too much," Lisci added, complaining that it was unclear when VAR was involved and when it was not.
On the other hand, despite the loss, Osasuna coach still praised his players' performance. Lisci said it was a pity that the only goal conceded came from a counterattack. According to him, Osasuna started the second half very well, but that transition ruined everything.
