Man United continued to disappoint when they lost 0-2 to West Ham in the Premier League last night, May 11. The defeat caused the "Red Devils" to fall to 16th place in the rankings, a very bad position for one of the greatest teams in the history of English football.
After this defeat, coach Ruben Amorim admitted that he could soon resign if the "Red Devils" continue to struggle like this. He told BBC Sports: "We are losing the feeling of being a big team, and it is terrible to lose a match at home. If we no longer have the fear of losing, it is very dangerous for a big team."
United have beaten only relegated Ipswich and Leicester City in the Premier League since January 26, and are on a seven-game winless run in the competition. Amorim believes United have a number of problems to address.
"Everyone is thinking about the Europa League final," he said. "But the final is not the problem. We have bigger things to think about. I'm talking about myself, I'm talking about the culture in the club and the culture in the team. We need to change that.
This is a decisive moment in the history of Man United. We need to be strong in the summer and be brave because Man United will not have another season like this. If Man United continues to start like this, we should leave and make room for others."
Man United have now lost 17 Premier League games this season, 13 of which have been under coach Amorim. With this form, Mr. Amorim believes that the "Red Devils" should only play in the Premier League, not appear in the Champions League to lose face.
The Portuguese coach declared: "If we don't change the way we play, we shouldn't be in the Champions League. We should just stay in the Premier League and learn to compete round by round."
