Scott Parker has been forced to leave Burnley. |
Burnley confirmed that both sides had reached an agreement to terminate Parker's contract, despite him having one year remaining. "The club would like to express its sincere gratitude to Scott for his professionalism, dedication, and contributions over the years. He leaves with respect and appreciation from the entire team," the statement read.
Parker's departure marks a sad end to a once-successful partnership. In the 2024/25 season, the 45-year-old manager led Burnley to promotion with a 31-match unbeaten run and 30 clean sheets. However, upon returning to the Premier League, Burnley failed to maintain their form and soon paid the price for their resilience in England's top league.
For now, assistant coach Mike Jackson will temporarily lead the team for the final four rounds of matches. The club's management has also begun planning for a new head coach in preparation for the 2026/27 Championship campaign. One of the prominent candidates is Steven Gerrard.
The departure of Parker shows that Burnley had to make a difficult decision after their Premier League failure. Nevertheless, what he leaves behind will still be seen as a memorable mark in the club's history.
Parker became the 11th manager to lose his job in the Premier League this season. Prior to this, the 10 managers sacked included Nuno Espirito Santo (Nottingham Forest), Graham Potter (West Ham), Ange Postecoglou (Nottingham Forest), Vítor Pereira (Wolves), Enzo Maresca (Chelsea), Ruben Amorim (Manchester United), Thomas Frank (Tottenham), Sean Dyche (Nottingham Forest), Igor Tudor (Tottenham), and Liam Rosenior (Chelsea).
