Support people who lost their homes to settle down soon

Returning to the southern localities of the province after nearly 2 weeks of floodwaters receding, before our eyes were rice fields, corn fields, and fruit trees covered in alluvium. Along with supporting people to clean up and maintain the environment, localities are mobilizing resources to quickly support people to restore their homes after storms and floods, especially those who lost their homes.

Leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Binh commune visited and encouraged Ms. Duong Thi Bo in Dong Ang hamlet who lost her entire house due to flood.

Dong Ang is one of the hamlets most severely damaged by the recent floods. According to preliminary statistics, among the 13 households whose houses collapsed in the entire Phu Binh commune (6 houses completely collapsed and 7 houses collapsed 50-70%), Dong Ang hamlet has 3 households whose houses completely collapsed and 3 households whose houses collapsed 50-70%.

After being taken away by the forces to avoid the flood, the water receded and she returned home, Mrs. Duong Thi Bo (77 years old, in Dong Ang hamlet) could not believe her eyes when her entire house was swept away by the flood. Mrs. Bo said: My parents gave birth to me alone, I have no siblings. I have 2 children, one of whom is also from a poor household whose house collapsed, living alone without knowing who to rely on. Luckily for my family, the government and the Fatherland Front have paid attention and supported me. Many organizations have visited, given gifts, and supported money to rebuild the house.

As of October 22, Mrs. Bo’s family has received 220 million VND in support from organizations and individuals. The neighborhood and her family are urgently completing the procedures so that Mrs. Bo can soon settle down in her new house.

Joining us in the hamlets that were heavily damaged by floods, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Binh commune, informed: To support people in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, the Fatherland Front Committee of the commune has directed the front working committees of hamlets to proactively coordinate with hamlet chiefs and grassroots disaster prevention command committees to directly support people in reinforcing their houses, quickly harvesting crops and moving people out of areas at high risk of landslides.

Immediately after the flood, the Commune Fatherland Front Committee called on organizations, individuals, and businesses inside and outside the locality to join hands to support and help severely affected households.

According to statistics from the Phu Binh Commune Fatherland Front Committee, there are about 8,430 households in the commune that were flooded, with estimated damage of about 632,267 million VND. For households whose houses completely and partially collapsed, through the mobilization work of the Phu Binh Commune Fatherland Front Committee, the families received support from many organizations and individuals. Households whose houses completely collapsed were supported with over 130 million VND; households whose houses partially collapsed were supported with over 70 million VND.

Leaving Phu Binh, we went to Diem Thuy commune, which was heavily affected, especially the hamlets along the Cau River in the old Ha Chau, Nga My, and Thuong Dinh communes. Arriving at Ms. Truong Thi Hoat's house in Dong hamlet near the foot of the Ha Chau dike, we saw that on the foundation of the old house that had been swept away by the flood, a new house was being urgently built by a group of workers.

Ms. Hoat informed: I worked as a construction worker and saved 20 million in a plastic bag. The flood came and swept away my house and the money I had saved for many years. Thank you to the neighbors and the commune government for their timely encouragement and the mobilization of businesses and philanthropists to help me overcome this difficult period.
