Officials of the Women's Union of Chau Thanh district and Nguyet Hoa commune at Bao Minh rice paper facility
The strong influence of Project 939 and many programs and projects promoting entrepreneurship for rural women in Tra Vinh have inspired creativity for women to start businesses. Many women have boldly stepped out of their comfort zone to invest in production and business, turning challenges into opportunities and affirming their position in the family and society.
In Ben Co hamlet, Nguyet Hoa commune, Chau Thanh district, they think that starting a business is a way to increase income through their own labor and creativity, and create jobs for the community through researching and producing traditional rice paper, a type of material that is easy to find and available right in their hometown. Ms. Le Thi Hanh, Nguyet Hoa commune, Chau Thanh district said: our facility produces this product called rice paper spring rolls, this is a traditional profession, each day we make 20,000 pieces. When participating in the startup movement, women took her to training courses and fairs. The goal of our products is to be clean, following the process we went to for training, and they must be completely clean to last a long time.
To make delicious, quality rice paper, it must go through many stages, the ingredients must be carefully selected. After being rolled, the rice paper is dried in the sun in an airy, clean space, ensuring hygiene. On average, every day, Ms. Le Thi Hanh's Bao Minh facility produces more than 20,000 rice paper rolls; supplying the entire Tra Vinh province and some neighboring provinces such as Vinh Long, Ben Tre , Soc Trang. Not only creating a good source of income for the family, Ms. Hanh's rice paper production facility also creates jobs for 7 seasonal workers in the area.
In 2022, with the support of the local government and the Women's Union of Chau Thanh district, Ms. Le Thi Hanh's rice paper facility was granted a food safety certificate, built a label and achieved 3-star OCOP standards with the name "Bao Minh Rice Paper". From here, many new development opportunities will open up, building a typical brand of Chau Thanh district and reaching more customers.
Ms. Hanh added: the products that achieved OCOP in 2022 have been made a lot so far, but before, they were made very little. After I joined OCOP, the products achieved clean quality, so now I have made a lot. Now that I want to make more, I have to develop and have more capital to do it. I also need the support of the Women's Union and the locality to have capital to develop.
With the determination to preserve traditional crafts, build OCOP products, and strive to become rich legitimately, Ms. Le Thi Hanh is one of the typical examples of good economic performance; contributing to spreading and arousing the desire to start a business among members and women.
Comrade Dinh Duy Thien, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Nguyet Hoa Commune, Chau Thanh District, said: With the attention of the Women's Union of Chau Thanh District, the women's start-up movement in Nguyet Hoa Commune has also had many positive changes, including focusing on building OCOP products. Thereby, together with the Party Committee of the Commune, successfully built an advanced new rural commune as well as poverty reduction work in the locality. In the coming time, the Party Committee will continue to pay attention, lead and direct the Women's Union and other sectors and organizations to create all favorable conditions for union members to participate in developing the family economy.
Ms. Ngo Thi Kieu Diem, President of the Women's Union of Chau Thanh district, said: The work of supporting women to start a business has always been of interest and support to the Union at all levels to help women develop their economy and assert themselves in their families and society. In particular, implementing the Project "Supporting Women to Start a Business in the 2017-2025 period", the Union has also organized and participated in introducing 169 women to training on knowledge and skills of food safety, improving their capacity to start a business.
In the context of economic restructuring and the impact of the fourth industrial revolution, the Government's Project 939 is a testament to the commitments and effective solutions in enhancing women's economic empowerment. In 2024, the Women's Union at all levels mobilized more than VND 91 billion in resources to support women in starting businesses and startups, and building Ocop products.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quynh Thien, Vice Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People's Committee: The OCOP product development program is of great significance, creating quality products, bringing the province's brand to the market, contributing to socio-economic development. OCOP products ensure food safety and hygiene standards, and are safe when brought to the market, so it is very necessary to support market connection activities of departments and branches for the province's OCOP products. The Women's Union has made many efforts in supporting the development of OCOP products and connecting to bring the province's typical products to the market, contributing to the development of rural industrial products, aiming for export.
To foster women’s entrepreneurial aspirations, in the coming time, the Women’s Union at all levels will continue to promote the implementation of Project 939, mobilizing many resources to support women’s development. The Union will continue to mobilize members and female-owned businesses to participate in new-style cooperatives, build climate change-adaptive startup models, and participate in e-commerce platforms for sustainable development in the startup ecosystem.
