Local communities benefit from participating in mangrove planting on Tam Giang lagoon |
After handing over mangrove seedlings, in recent times, the leaders of Phu Hai and Phu Gia communes have mobilized departments, branches, organizations, and local people to plant in vulnerable areas and dispersed in ponds, lakes, and aquaculture areas to protect the environment, contributing to enriching biodiversity in Tam Giang lagoon. Previously, on March 18, CSRD supported the handover to Huong Phong commune (A Luoi) of more than 5,000 seedlings, including green lim, sen trung, and black star, for replanting and restoring natural forests in A Luoi district.
The above activities are within the framework of the project "Planting mangrove trees scattered around aquaculture ponds in Tam Giang lagoon area and planting native forest trees to restore natural forests in A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province (now Hue city)" approved by the People's Committee of Hue city under Decision No. 168/QD-UBND dated January 20, 2025. The total project cost is more than 735 million VND (equivalent to 29,875 USD) sponsored by Cotswold Company (UK) Ltd (United Kingdom). The implementation period is until September 2025, including survey activities, scattered forest planting and post-planting monitoring. In addition to supporting seedlings, CSRD supports 31.3 million VND to the locality to carry out the above forest planting activities (of which, Huong Phong commune receives 10 million VND; Phu Gia receives 13.2 million VND and Phu Hai receives 9.1 million VND).

Prof. Dr. Trinh Thi Dinh, Director of CSRD said: The main objective of the project is to promote the role of the community in developing a sustainable aquaculture livelihood model based on protecting water resources and restoring natural ecosystems, creating landscapes for aquaculture areas; increasing natural forest cover in the A Luoi mountainous area, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas effects and landslides during the rainy season. Through that, raising people's awareness of planting mangrove forests, protecting ecosystems, increasing the responsibility of each individual in protecting the environment, protecting forests...
