According to information from the US Embassy and Consulate General, the $1 million in emergency humanitarian aid will be provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
"This aid will be allocated to humanitarian relief partners to provide cash assistance for various purposes, including shelter, clean water, sanitation, and other non-food support to contribute to the disaster relief efforts being urgently implemented nationwide under the direction of the Vietnamese Government. This $1 million assistance builds on the foundation of long-term support for the Vietnamese Government and the Vietnam Red Cross to help enhance resilience to climate change and strengthen disaster response capabilities for communities across the country," the announcement stated.
In addition, USAID disaster response experts will continuously monitor and coordinate closely with local emergency response agencies and partners on the ground. USAID humanitarian relief experts on the ground are involved in assessing damage to ensure that U.S. aid reaches the people quickly and promptly.
Along with the announcement, the Embassy's official Facebook page quoted U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper as saying: "We extend our deepest condolences to all the families who have lost loved ones and been severely affected by the storm. The United States is a committed partner of Vietnam in its efforts to respond to and recover from this unprecedented natural disaster."

Earlier, on September 10, Ambassador Marc Knapper sent his condolences to people affected by storm No. 3. He said the US Embassy is closely monitoring the situation of landslides, floods and infrastructure damage in the North.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones. During this difficult time, we also want to express our sympathy to the armed forces, police, and the Vietnamese government, as well as the efforts of the people in supporting each other in times of hardship during the implementation of disaster assessment and response activities. On the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, we stand alongside you in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and are working closely with our Vietnamese government partners in emergency response efforts to support the recovery of a beautiful and resilient Vietnam," he said.
For decades, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has partnered with the Government of Vietnam to strengthen national capacity to respond to, prevent, and mitigate natural disaster risks, aiming to improve disaster preparedness for communities across the country in the context of increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters. Over the past five years, the U.S. Mission to Vietnam, through USAID, has provided $7.7 million in emergency assistance and disaster preparedness support, including responding to storm and flood needs and building the capacity of disaster response teams across the country. |
Over the past few days, images of floods causing severe damage in the northern provinces have not only worried people in the country, but also touched the hearts of millions of overseas Vietnamese. From all over the world, overseas Vietnamese have been constantly following the developments of storms and floods and joining hands to organize fundraising activities to support people in the affected areas. |
The North is facing a complex flood situation, causing serious damage to people and property. Authorities have quickly deployed rescue and support work for people in seriously affected areas such as Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Cao Bang... Flood prevention efforts are being urgently deployed to ensure people's safety and overcome the consequences of natural disasters. |
