Singapore's top four public schools charge tuition fees of around SGD 17,800-50,000 (VND 300-880 million) per year, depending on the school and whether the international student is self-funded or receiving a grant.
With the advantage of being close to Vietnam, good training quality, guaranteed security, and being the headquarters of many multinational companies, Singapore is a study abroad destination chosen by many Vietnamese students.
Singapore currently has 6 public universities, of which 4 are strong: Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University and Singapore University of Technology and Design. All accept candidates with A level (UK), A level (Singapore), Polytechnic Diploma, International Baccalaureate (IB) and Vietnamese high school diploma.
According to Mai Tuan Minh, a former student of Nanyang Technological University, because they are all of good quality, the schools are very strict in selecting students, and the entrance standards can change every year and are announced on the website.
Here are the strengths and tuition fees applicable to Vietnamese students at Singapore's public universities:
National University of Singapore (NUS)
It is Singapore's highest-ranked university in current global university rankings. It is ranked 11th by QS, while THE ranks 19th.
NUS's strengths are its network of connections with many major universities around the world, with the most extensive exchange and internship programs in the Lion Island. NUS also has good research activities, a balanced curriculum and connections with major companies in Singapore.
Therefore, the academic environment here is highly competitive, creating a lot of pressure for students. Tuition fees for Vietnamese students under the government's subsidy program, staying to work after three years of graduation (Tuition grant) range from 17,800-27,400 SGD (315-485 million VND) per year. For self-funded students, tuition fees are around 30,300-39,600 SGD (526-700 million VND) per year.
These rates do not apply to certain specific fields such as Music, Medicine, Dentistry.

Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
According to the two largest world university rankings, QS and THE, the school is ranked 19th and 36th respectively.
NTU is strong in engineering and technology, famous for its research facilities such as the Continental-NTU and Rolls Royce-NTU laboratories. The school has the lowest tuition fees and a strong alumni network, many of whom are Vietnamese.
The drawbacks of NTU are that it is quite far from the city center and is not strong in some social science fields. Tuition fees for Vietnamese students with Tuition grants range from SGD 17,800-20,400 (VND 315-360 million), and for self-funded students it is SGD 37,700-39,750 (VND 667-703 million) per year. This level does not apply to the medical field.
This year, the school first awarded the NTU Talent scholarship for talents in extracurricular activities and arts.

Singapore Management University (SMU)
SMU has strengths in Law and Management with a curriculum that is highly practical. In addition, the school focuses on extracurricular programs and is located near the city center, making it convenient for students to travel.
SMU does not rank as highly in the rankings as NUS or NTS. It is ranked 117th in the QS Asia University Rankings 2023, but in many rankings by subject such as Management and Business, SMU is always in the top 50 in the world.
Tuition fees for Vietnamese students with Tuition grants are 24,850-27,400 SGD (440-485 million VND), and for self-funded students, it is 45,600-49,950 SGD (807-884 million VND) per year.

Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)
SUTD’s strength is its project-based curriculum, which helps students apply their acquired skills directly to practice. SUTD uses the curriculum of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, which makes it different from other schools. In addition, the interaction between lecturers and students here is highly appreciated.
However, since it was only established in 2009, the alumni network of the school is not yet strong. The purely project-based learning program may not be suitable for some students.
Tuition fees for Vietnamese students with Tuition Grants are around SGD 30,000 (VND 530 million) per year. For self-funded students, the school has not announced tuition fees for 2023.

In addition, international students need to pay extra for accommodation, food, pocket money, books, public transportation... All in all, an average of about 10,400 SGD (185 million VND) per year, according to information on the NUS website.
