Tuition fees at the 50 best universities in the United States

Most of the top 50 universities in the US are private, with tuition ranging from $21,700 to $68,200 per year.

The 2024 US university rankings are compiled by US News. The results announced late last year showed that the top 10 has remained stable for many years, with 5 out of 8 representatives belonging to the Ivy League. Princeton University has led for 13 consecutive years.

Looking at the top 20, 18 out of 20 are private universities. Two universities, the University of California, Berkeley and Los Angeles, are tied for 15th place, the highest ranking among public universities.

Tuition fees at these universities range from $21,700 to $68,200 (approximately 0.53-1.6 billion VND) per year for international students. Florida State University (ranked 53rd) has the lowest tuition, while Brown University (ranked 9th) and Southern California University (ranked 28th) have the highest. The cheapest Ivy League university is Harvard University, at just over $59,000 per year.

However, this is just tuition. International students need to consider many other expenses. For example, when you add housing, food, books, and living expenses, the total amount an international student at Harvard has to pay can reach up to $95,000 (2.3 billion VND).

In 2024, US News The ranking covers a total of 1,500 schools, based on 19 criteria. The weighting of each criterion varies depending on whether the university uses SAT or ACT scores for admissions. Of these, the graduation rate score carries the highest weight, at 21%. The remaining criteria account for 3-20%.

In this ranking, US News removed five old criteria and added seven new ones, including the graduation rate of first-generation college graduates, the percentage of graduates earning more than high school graduates, the number of citations per publication, and the number of international publications by faculty members.
