The activity was organized by the Departmentof Education and Training of Thu Duc City on March 30 at Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School.

Learning while playing

At the festival, students took turns experiencing games and scientific challenges at 28 booths. Each time they conquered a scientific challenge, they received a certificate.

In particular, the "fire hand" experience area attracts a lot of students.

"I was very curious about this game. But when I understood that this is a game that applies chemical properties and saw my friends playing it safely, I also tried it" - Duy Khang, a student at Phuoc Binh Secondary School, said.

Additionally, students particularly enjoyed the robotics experiences and virtual reality demonstration area.

Phuoc Tai, a student at Long Phuoc Secondary School, said: "I played all the games at the festival and found it very interesting. STEM is very close and practical to life, not too strange. I hope to learn, explore, and practice creativity with STEM more."

While the students were passionate about the experience, in the hall, more than 200 education managers and teachers of Thu Duc City participated in the workshop "Application of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning".

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Viet Trung, Deputy General Director of KDI Education, shared: "The 2018 general education program stipulates that students will be taught about AI from grade 12. But I think that AI education content can be implemented from primary school level without having to wait until high school level. Primary school students can learn about simple programming, the impact of AI in life and related issues...".

According to Mr. Trung, high school students need to learn about programming, algorithms, data skills, ethical issues of AI, social consequences created by AI, AI applications in various areas of life; understand and use - develop AI techniques, AI technologies and AI products...

Mr. Trung believes that teachers themselves need to be trained in AI, including content such as an overview of artificial intelligence in education, how to create an account and use ChatGPT effectively, the limitations of ChatGPT and notes for students when using ChatGPT, how to use available libraries for programming activities with AI applications, etc.

At the workshop, many administrators and teachers also acknowledged the need to apply AI in education. However, they were still concerned because there was no AI curriculum or regulations on student assessment…

Experience to inspire creativity

"The STEM Education Festival aims to provide opportunities for teachers and students to learn and share experiences in the field of STEM education. Teachers not only have access to modern STEM education technology but also have the opportunity to interact with experts to learn about the development of technology in education, especially AI.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Thu Duc City has just celebrated its 3rd anniversary and continues to affirm that STEM is one of the top important goals to improve the quality of education in Thu Duc City.

After this festival, Thu Duc City will organize activities to support teachers in teaching STEM, applying AI to teaching, and piloting AI talent training classes for students...

Hopefully, in next year's STEM festival, we will be able to admire science and technology products made by Thu Duc students themselves," said Mr. Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen, head of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City.
