On December 13, 2025, in Ho Chi Minh City, the D-JOY Sports Academy officially launched. Given the rapid development of pickleball in Vietnam in recent years, this event signifies more than just an organizational milestone. It reflects an inevitable trend: the shift of pickleball from a community movement to a professional training program with clear roadmaps and standards.
The key takeaway lies in the organizational mindset. Pickleball is no longer approached as an "easy to play, easy to participate in" sport, but is placed within a rigorous training framework where technique, physical fitness, tactics, and competitive psychology are considered mandatory components. The training model aims to develop well-rounded athletes, rather than simply raising the skill level of players at the recreational level.
The professional expertise is clearly demonstrated by the fact that American Pickleball legend Kyle Yates, former world number one, has taken on the role of head coach. Having a leading expert directly develop the curriculum and participate in training provides access to modern coaching methods, while also bridging the gap between Vietnamese Pickleball and more developed Pickleball nations.
Facilities also play a crucial role in this process. The Academy boasts 63 high-quality pickleball courts, including a large complex and a central court that hosted the D-Joy Vietnam Masters – Petrolimex Cup 2025, a tournament considered a major milestone for domestic pickleball. Connecting training with a real competition environment helps athletes quickly adapt to the pressure, pace, and professional demands at a higher level.
In addition to the playing fields, the training model also integrates academic facilities, dormitories, therapy and psychological treatment rooms, and a specialized gym. This approach shows that high-performance sports depend not only on playing skills, but also on a long-term process of physical and mental training and disciplined lifestyle.
