According to the VNA correspondent in Kuala Lumpur, at the three-day event, from October 26-28, leaders will discuss regional peace , economic resilience, and inclusive growth under the theme "Inclusive and Sustainable".
The opening session also included the ASEAN Awards Ceremony to recognize outstanding contributions to the development of the ASEAN Community, as well as the signing of the Declaration admitting Timor Leste as the 11th member of ASEAN, symbolizing the unity and expansion of the bloc.
Following the ceremony, the leaders witnessed the signing of the Second Protocol amending the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA).

In the coming days, leaders will attend the ASEAN+3 Summit (APT), the East Asia Summit (EAS), and a series of ASEAN+1 meetings with major partners, including the United Nations.
The conference will conclude on October 28th with a closing ceremony and the handover of the ASEAN chairmanship to the Philippines, marking the culmination of a landmark year for Malaysia in promoting regional cooperation, unity, and sustainability.

Prior to this, a series of preparatory meetings were held from October 23-25, including the Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to ASEAN, the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC), and the ASEAN Foreign and Economic Ministers' Meeting, which also witnessed the signing of the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

This is the fifth time Malaysia has held the ASEAN chairmanship since 1967, with previous terms in 2015, 2005, 1997, and 1977.
