More than 200 farmers were updated with information and knowledge about growing straw mushrooms.

(CTO) - On September 23, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD) of Can Tho City in coordination with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Vietnam Rice Industry Association and the School of Agriculture - Can Tho University organized the "Straw Mushroom Farmer Festival" at Tien Thuan Agricultural and Service Cooperative in Thanh Quoi Commune, Can Tho City.

Demonstration of mechanization in organic fertilizer production from straw at Tien Thuan Cooperative.

At the "Straw Mushroom Farmer Festival", more than 200 farmers from many communes and wards in Can Tho City were updated with useful information and knowledge in using straw to develop straw mushroom cultivation and produce organic fertilizer; visited the actual model of growing straw mushrooms indoors, growing straw mushrooms outdoors and watched the demonstration of applying mechanization in producing organic fertilizer from straw at Tien Thuan Cooperative.

Farmers also met and exchanged with experts and experienced farmers on straw mushroom production techniques and developing circular economy from straw to apply appropriately to their production conditions.

Tien Thuan Cooperative is the place that has deployed a pilot model to implement the Project on sustainable development of one million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta region by 2030 (Project on one million hectares of rice) from the summer-autumn crop of 2024 with an area of ​​50 hectares. With the support of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City together with IRRI and related units, the Cooperative has deployed a circular economy model from straw. Thanks to that, farmers of the Cooperative have both reduced greenhouse gas emissions during the production process and increased their income by 2-6 million VND/ha.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, said that together with the provinces in the Mekong Delta, Can Tho City has been actively participating in the implementation of the One Million Hectare Rice Project. By 2030, the area for implementing the One Million Hectare Rice Project in Can Tho City will be 170,000 hectares; the area for implementation in 2025 will be 104,500 hectares.

In recent times, the city has deployed 12 pilot models to implement the One Million Hectare Rice Project, with a scale of 50 hectares/model. The results show that the models are effective in productivity, quality, and profits increase by at least 20% compared to the production area outside the model...
