Can Tho University of Technology organized the program "Mid-Autumn Festival for Children" at Can Tho City School for Disabled Children.

Warm Mid-Autumn Festival

The program "Mid-Autumn Festival for Children" with the theme "Lanterns light up dreams", directed by the City People's Committee, the Department of Health and the Can Tho City Youth Union, organized in Vinh Thanh commune at the end of September 2025, attracting about 200 children in difficult circumstances. This is the starting point of the series of programs "Mid-Autumn Festival for Children" at the city level, aiming to take care of orphans, disabled children, children from poor households, remote areas, affected by the COVID-19 epidemic.

The joy was evident on the faces of the "little angels" when they watched the lion dance, interacted with Uncle Cuoi, Sister Hang and the performances by Ninh Kieu Children's House. Receiving the Mid-Autumn Festival gift, Pham Tuan Kiet, a student of class 4A3, Vinh Thanh 3 Primary School, was moved: "I am very happy to receive lanterns and cakes. The joy is even greater when I can join the Mid-Autumn Festival lantern procession with my classmates." His parents are workers in Ho Chi Minh City, Kiet lives with his grandparents. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, Kiet mostly plays with his classmates. Therefore, when he was able to participate in the "Mid-Autumn Festival for Children" program, Kiet excitedly arrived early, joined in the folk games, watched the lion dance and enjoyed cakes and candies.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan, Deputy Director of Can Tho City Department of Health, the program "Mid-Autumn Festival for Children" aims to create a joyful and warm atmosphere, spreading the concern and sharing of the whole society, ensuring that all children can celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival safely, equally and with full love. Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a joy for children, but also becomes a symbol of humanity and community care. Together with Vinh Thanh commune, the program "Mid-Autumn Festival for Children" is held in Phung Hiep commune and Long Phu commune. At each location, the program's Organizing Committee presented 200 gifts to children in special circumstances and children at risk of falling into special circumstances.

Agencies and units in the city also have many activities to care for and educate cultural traditions for children on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival. According to Mr. Lai Phuoc Truong Thanh, Secretary of the Youth Union of Cai Khe Ward, the ward's youth coordinated with organizations and businesses to give more than 200 gifts to students who overcame difficulties and studied well; organized a "Journey of Love" at Xa Hieu Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, Kon Plong Commune (Quang Ngai Province), giving school supplies, books and Mid-Autumn gifts to 250 students in difficult circumstances at the school, with a total value of 120 million VND. The ward's Youth Union directed the youth branches in the areas to organize a "Full Moon Festival Night" with many activities to create a joyful and warm atmosphere: lantern making contest, carrying Uncle Ho's picture, giving gifts to children...

The campus of Can Tho City School for Children with Disabilities was bustling on the weekend when the Can Tho University of Technology and Engineering organized the program "Mid-Autumn Festival for Children", with activities such as lantern procession, lion dance, feast, art performance... Mr. Nguyen Van Diep, Principal of Can Tho City School for Children with Disabilities, said: "The school has 127 students who are disabled or have autism spectrum disorder. The fun activities are an opportunity for them to strengthen friendships and confidently show off their talents in front of a crowd."

Every year on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, many organizations and individuals visit the school, give gifts and organize playgrounds, contributing to encouraging children to overcome their inferiority complex and confidently integrate into the community. Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van in Tan An ward - mother of LHP, a first grade student, shared: "P has a disability in his hand, so he often feels inferior and has little communication. Today, seeing my child playing with his friends, I am very happy." According to teacher Diep, for children with disabilities, gifts and sharing are a great source of encouragement, contributing to warming the hearts of children, helping them to be more optimistic and confident.

Mr. Dang Hoang Son, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Can Tho University of Technology, said: “From mid-September 2025, every day there are 10-20 students volunteering to make lanterns to give to children in difficult circumstances on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Youth Union prioritizes cakes and lanterns to give to children at the Can Tho City School for Children with Disabilities. In addition, students also practice art performances and games to perform to entertain the children.” According to Mr. Son, the volunteer students went to the garden house in Thoi An Dong ward, Phong Dien commune to ask for bamboo support, and mobilized union members to contribute to buying more paper, glue and materials to make more than 2,000 star lanterns, animal-shaped lanterns and electronic lanterns. These lanterns were given by the Youth Union to children in difficult circumstances in Thoi An Dong ward, Dong Hiep commune and some other schools.

Communes and wards in the city actively mobilize social resources to organize the Mid-Autumn Festival, ensuring that children can have safe and useful entertainment. According to Mr. Vo Thanh Nhanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Thanh Commune, the commune has more than 590 students in difficult circumstances who need support during the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2025. Up to now, schools have mobilized benefactors to support gifts, necessities, and lanterns for the children. The Mid-Autumn Festival is organized with many activities: lantern design contest, art performances, and entertainment activities.

In addition, clubs, teams, and volunteer groups organize many useful playgrounds integrated into the Mid-Autumn Festival in remote areas in the Mekong Delta provinces and cities. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Bich, representative of the volunteer group "Journey to Go and Love" (Can Tho City), the group organized the Mid-Autumn Festival in Tap Ngai commune, Vinh Long province. In addition to giving away 500 gifts, 30 scholarships, 20 health insurance cards, the group organized skill booths, a school supplies fair, and many activities recreating the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival, so that children could enjoy the joy of partying and have a complete childhood full moon season.
