More than 3,000 candidates compete for admission to grade 10 at Foreign Language Specialized High School

(Dan Tri) - This morning (June 1), more than 3,000 candidates competed for a place in grade 10 at the Foreign Language Specialized High School. With 630 quotas, the competition ratio this year is about 1/5-1/6, depending on the specialized group.

According to the school, this morning many students still mistook the exam location and forgot some items such as papers or calculators.

"However, the school has a team of volunteer students from the University of Foreign Languages ( Hanoi National University) and volunteer students from the school to help enthusiastically, so the students all arrived at the right exam location," said a member of the Examination Council.

At 5am this morning, Le Ha Chi, a student at Duc Thang Secondary School, Bac Tu Liem District, packed her bag and went to take the exam.

Chi had studied hard and came to the exam with a fairly confident mindset. However, according to this candidate, whether or not she could do the test well depends partly on the mentality in the exam room.

“After taking several practice tests and looking up some knowledge online, I found that the school focuses on evaluating language, not just broad knowledge in other subjects, so I focused on reviewing in this direction,” Chi said.

A female student from Nguyen Dinh Chieu Secondary School said she did not put much emphasis on passing or failing. “If I fail, it’s okay, I will focus on doing well at Chu Van An,” she said. According to this candidate, in addition to studying at school, she also studies math, literature, and English outside, both for the specialized exam and for the conditional exam.

With excellent results, the female student hopes to pass the entrance exam to one of two specialized high schools this year: Foreign Language High School and Chu Van An High School.

“Taking the exam based on the new general education program makes me more interested than the old program, especially literature because there is no longer the situation of rote learning or following the text like before. Therefore, we can freely create and are not constrained,” the female student said.

Even though she had entered the school yard, Ngo Yen Chi, a student at Dich Vong Secondary School, still took out her test papers to review, her eyes constantly looking out the gate with an impatient look.

The female student said that she had forgotten her calculator because she was in a hurry, and her mother was going to get it for her. The female student said that she started studying for the entrance exam to this school around the end of 7th grade. For Chi, this was a rather late start compared to her friends.

“Because I started a bit later than my friends, I had to study at school and take extra classes outside. Because I had to study hard, I focused on studying the questions. Compared to my friends, I still didn’t study as hard as my classmates,” Chi said.

In addition to the Foreign Language High School exam, Yen Chi also took the exam for Amsterdam High School, Hanoi National University of Education High School, and Nguyen Tat Thanh High School.

“I’m not too worried because first, my family doesn’t put much emphasis on passing or failing, second, I’ve already been admitted to a non-public high school, and third, I’m quite confident in my academic ability, so for now, I think I’ll just focus on doing the best I can on the exam,” Chi confidently said.

This morning, Quynh Anh, a student at Phu Luong Secondary School, Ha Dong, woke up at 5am to take the exam. “In addition to studying at school, I practice for the exam outside and study with a 1-on-1 tutor. In addition to this school, I took the exam for the National University of Education High School and Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted. I am quite confident and hope to get into one of those schools,” Quynh Anh said.

The competition rate cooled down.

This year, nearly 3,400 candidates registered for the 10th grade entrance exam at this school, of which the English class had the most applications. With 315 quotas, the competition ratio is 1/1.5, while last year it was 1/7.1. The reason is that the school increased 105 English majors.

The Russian class has the highest competition, with a ratio of 1/7. It is also the only class with an increased competition ratio.

The remaining five classes all have reduced application numbers, so the competition ratio has also decreased, commonly around 1/4-1/6.

Candidates registering for the 10th grade of the Foreign Language Specialized School must take four exams on June 1, including math, literature, English and the specialized subject. They can choose one of five foreign languages, including English, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, and Korean, to take the exam for the corresponding specialized class. The English subject can be applied to all specialized classes.

The admission score is the total score of four subjects on a 10-point scale, in which the specialized subject is multiplied by a factor of two, with a maximum of 50, without bonus points. The results will be announced before July 15.

The entrance exam schedule for grade 10 at Foreign Language Specialized High School is as follows:
