The People's Committee of Hue City has just issued Decision No. 1431/QD-UBND on the promulgation of the set of criteria for green tourism in Hue City, aiming to concretize the orientation for sustainable, environmentally friendly tourism development and in line with the National Green Growth Strategy.

The Hue City Green Tourism Criteria include a system of standards, indicators, and guidelines applicable to various types of tourism services in the area: tourist accommodation establishments, tourist attractions, and food and beverage businesses. Simultaneously, a set of Hue City Green Tourism Identity Guidelines is issued to ensure consistency in communication, promotion, and recognition of establishments that meet the standards.
The development and promulgation of the Green Tourism Criteria stem from the urgent need in the context of climate change, increasing environmental pressure, and the global trend of sustainable tourism development. For Hue – a tourism center rich in heritage and natural resources – orienting development towards a green tourism model not only contributes to environmental protection and heritage preservation but also enhances service quality and the destination's image.

The criteria were developed with the goal of creating a unified standard framework for evaluating, classifying, and recognizing the "green" level of tourism establishments; encouraging businesses to adopt environmentally friendly solutions, use resources efficiently, minimize waste, and promote social responsibility. At the same time, it also serves as a tool to support management agencies in inspection, monitoring, and policy development to promote sustainable tourism.
In recent years, the ancient capital of Hue has been one of the most popular destinations for both domestic and international tourists. According to reports, from the beginning of 2016 to the present, Hue has welcomed over 2.67 million visitors, an increase of over 30% compared to the same period last year. Tourism revenue is estimated at over 6,234 billion VND, an increase of over 70%, affirming its position as a leading tourism center in Vietnam.
