Mobilizing resources to support poor women.

In 2020, Ms. Trinh Thi Hong's husband in Bai Trai village, Yen Dinh commune, suffered a stroke while their five children were still in school, making life very difficult for the family. Understanding their plight, the Women's Association of Bai Trai village gave her a sow as a means of livelihood. Ms. Hong and her children dedicated their time and effort to caring for the sow, and each year it produces 10 or more piglets.

With the sale of breeding stock going smoothly, she bought another sow to gradually expand her operation. Currently, she sells two batches of pigs per year, earning tens of millions of dong. Seeing Ms. Hong's diligence and ability to calculate profits, the local association facilitated a 100 million dong loan from the Social Policy Bank for her to buy a pair of breeding cows and build a barn... To date, her family has sold cows and pigs several times, escaped poverty, and built a spacious and sturdy house.

In Bim Son ward, established in 2013, the "Women's Club for Mutual Economic Development and Sustainable Poverty Reduction" has so far provided 120 cows and pigs and 8,000 chickens to poor and disadvantaged women, with a total value of over 1.1 billion VND. The club's operating method involves providing partial funding, with households contributing additional capital to proactively purchase livestock and committing to maintaining efficient production. After 2 to 4 years, the households repay the capital, allowing the club to continue reviewing and assisting disadvantaged households in need of production loans. With this approach, the club has helped 1 to 2 poor households escape poverty sustainably each year.

Helping poor women reach the right places and achieve the right goals to escape poverty is one of the important objectives in the organization's mission of supporting women's economic development, increasing income, and effectively reducing poverty. The Provincial Women's Union has directed all levels of the organization to strictly review and identify the right target groups for targeted support. Support is based on the needs of members and women; production and farming conditions; practical capabilities, etc., so that the organization can guide and support members in using the support resources effectively. Activities to support women in poverty reduction are implemented comprehensively in terms of capital, science and technology, labor, livestock, crops, employment, vocational training, etc. Along with this, the organization promotes the movements "Women helping each other develop economically," "Helping poor women with specific needs," and "Saving for poor women." Exploiting programs and projects to secure additional resources to support members and women, such as: Project 8 “Implementing gender equality and addressing urgent issues for women and children”; the Scheme to support women's entrepreneurship in the periods 2017-2025 and 2026-2030; the “Accompanying women in border areas” program, etc.

At the grassroots level, women's associations also implement various forms of savings to support each other in obtaining loans and building economic models to create jobs and livelihoods for members and women. In the process, women have leveraged their inner strength, with many escaping poverty and gaining additional resources for development, while also helping other members in need.

Officials from the Women's Union of Yen Dinh commune visited the family of Ms. Trinh Thi Hong in Bai Trai village, who has escaped poverty through raising pigs and cattle.

With various forms of targeted support, in 2025, women's associations at all levels helped more than 8,500 poor and near-poor households through various forms (labor, livestock, seedlings, fertilizers, etc.) worth over 8 billion VND. In early April 2026, the Provincial Women's Union launched a special emulation campaign to celebrate the 14th National Women's Congress with 5 provincial-level projects and tasks. These projects and tasks all aim to raise funds to support disadvantaged women and children, implement social welfare; and support poor women in developing livelihoods, increasing income, and achieving sustainable poverty alleviation. The emulation campaign aims to affirm the role of the women's association in always being ready to accompany its members. Currently, the Provincial Women's Union is advising and seeking the opinion of the Provincial People's Committee on the plan to implement the project "Supporting women's entrepreneurship in the period 2026-2035". Entrusting capital resources to the social policy bank for lending to programs aimed at creating livelihoods, stabilizing lives, and improving living standards.

Ms. Bui Thi Mai Hoan, Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union, said: "To ensure effective poverty reduction support for women, the Provincial Women's Union has directed its branches to review and accurately identify poor women and poor women who are heads of households, as a basis for developing targeted assistance plans. The Union is continuing to promote awareness of poverty reduction activities; at the same time, it is directing grassroots union officials to regularly meet with poor women and women in difficult circumstances to develop support plans that meet the needs of each member. This will further enhance the effectiveness of the Union's poverty reduction activities."
