Associate Professor Dr. Dao The Anh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS), shared Vietnam's practical experiences in applying the One Health approach at the workshop "One Health Horizon: Promoting cooperation, innovation and policies to improve global health and ensure food security".
Here, the VAAS leadership emphasized that, to effectively implement the One Health approach, a multi-sectoral approach is required. Vietnam is not only seeking support from international organizations but also proactively mobilizing domestic resources.
A prime example is the establishment of the Vietnam One Health Partnership (OHP) Framework – a forum bringing together government agencies, the private sector, research institutions, and international organizations to promote coordinated and comprehensive action.
The OHP framework has now expanded its areas of activity to contribute to the goal of transforming the national food system through an agroecological approach, incorporating additional objectives to improve the health of crops, soil, water, etc., and to control the use of fertilizers and antibiotics in both crop and livestock farming.
Associate Professor Dr. Dao The Anh also emphasized the importance of implementing One Health at the field level, through building data platforms and capacity building for grassroots staff through One Health field facilities.

With a focus on transforming food systems, the previous discussion session on "Promoting Regional Integration and South-South Cooperation" also highlighted the significant progress in the CGIAR-ASEAN partnership aimed at transforming food systems and enhancing resilience to climate change.
Mr. To Viet Chau, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized the importance of aligning CGIAR support with national priorities, enhancing knowledge sharing, capacity building, promoting the role of innovation, and fostering comprehensive partnerships in the context of climate change. The ASEAN-CGIAR regional program on enhancing food security and nutrition is a prime example that should be replicated.
The main objectives of the program are to improve the livelihoods of food producers, ensure nutritious and healthy food at affordable prices for consumers, and create a healthier natural environment in the ASEAN region.

In this context, the One Health approach is integrated into the program to address issues related to human, animal, and environmental health comprehensively. In the context of Southeast Asia, where many infectious diseases are emerging and re-emerging, the application of this approach is crucial.
In response to global challenges such as climate change, land degradation, and food insecurity, the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), in collaboration with the Kenya Organisation for Agricultural and Livestock Research (KALRO), is organizing the first CGIAR Science Week from May 7-12.
The event brought together leading scientists and policymakers from around the world in the fields of agriculture, climate, and health, marking a crucial moment to advance research, innovation, drive action, and establish strategic partnerships aimed at mobilizing investment in sustainable food systems for people and the planet.
