After the recent heavy rain and floods, National Highway 7 through Nghe An was seriously affected, with many sections being eroded and deeply submerged in mud, causing widespread traffic congestion.
To restore traffic soon, the route management unit, Joint Stock Company 495, coordinated with local forces to organize overnight repairs, mobilizing maximum human resources and vehicles to level and temporarily clear the route.

According to a report from Joint Stock Company 495, after the flood, National Highway 7 had 21 negative slope landslides, many of which were eroded by water nearly half the road surface. In addition, there were more than 200 positive slope landslides, with mud and soil flowing down and covering the road surface, making it impossible for vehicles to travel. In particular, the areas from Con Cuong commune to Muong Xen commune and Nam Can commune were severely damaged with a total affected length of about 180 km.

Mr. Le Canh Tam - Director of Joint Stock Company 495 said that immediately after the water receded, the unit immediately coordinated with local authorities to mobilize over 26 excavators and diggers to operate continuously to level and push mud, trash, rotten wood, etc. off the road surface. The work was organized simultaneously at the congested points, deployed 24/7 without rest, even at night.

For the negative slope landslides, the proposed solution is to widen the positive slope to the foot of the mountain to create a temporary traffic route, and at the same time put up danger warning signs. For the positive slope landslides, the machine teams focused on leveling to ensure at least one traffic lane. As of 11pm on July 26, the road from Con Cuong commune to Nam Can commune (old Ky Son district) was temporarily opened to traffic.

However, according to Mr. Tam, the work of clearing mud and soil is still very difficult because many areas are too heavily silted. Although the route has been initially cleared, it is expected to take several weeks to a month to completely clean up, ensuring safety and long-term stability. Currently, on National Highway 7, there are still some dangerous cracks at km 194, which need to be monitored and handled.

The work to overcome the consequences of the flood on National Highway 7 is still being urgently carried out, in complex weather conditions and difficult terrain. The overnight efforts of the functional forces demonstrate a sense of responsibility and determination to restore traffic and ensure safety for people as soon as possible./.
