The day Huynh Nhu 'came home'
On the afternoon of August 23, striker Huynh Nhu attended the training session of the Vietnamese women's team, in preparation for the training trip to the Czech Republic. The striker born in 1991 joined the team, just 1 day after completing the contract to return to contribute to the Ho Chi Minh City I Club.
Sharing about the decision to return, Huynh Nhu explained: "I thought and considered a lot before signing a contract with the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club. This decision was made not long ago. I returned to the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club to conquer a new challenge.
This is the first time in the history of Vietnamese women's football that a team has participated in the Asian Club Cup (AFC Champions League Women). I want to contribute to the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club in this tournament, to bring Vietnamese women's football closer to international friends."
Huynh Nhu joins the Vietnam women's team
Huynh Nhu will join Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club 1 to participate in the Asian Cup 1 for women's football in October. Here, coach Doan Thi Kim Chi's team is in the same group as Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan), Taichung Blue Whale (Taiwan) and a winning team in the play-off round will be decided this month.
"The opponents in the same group as the HCMC women's team are very strong and have prepared their forces thoroughly. However, I hope the HCMC women's team will make an effort to get a ticket to the next round. Talking about the distant future, I still hope I can go abroad. Not necessarily to Europe, but to try my hand at another football background," Huynh Nhu affirmed.
Huynh Nhu grew up in the Ho Chi Minh City youth team, then was promoted to the first team and became the team captain. The striker from Tra Vinh scored 105 goals in 152 matches for the club, becoming the most successful striker.
With Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club I, Huynh Nhu won the national championship 7 times and the National Cup 2 times. In the Vietnamese women's team, Huynh Nhu scored 68 goals, won 4 SEA Games gold medals (2017, 2019, 2022, 2023) and the 2019 AFF Women's Cup championship.
Huynh Nhu is the most experienced player in the Vietnamese women's team.
In 2022, Huynh Nhu decided to go abroad at the invitation of Lank FC (Portugal). The 33-year-old striker embarked on an adventure in Europe with impressive results. Throughout 2 seasons, Huynh Nhu scored 10 goals, assisted 4 goals, and contributed greatly to helping Lank FC stay in the league despite limited financial resources.
Hope the Vietnam women's team has overseas Vietnamese players
The Vietnamese women's team will train in the Czech Republic for 2 weeks, starting from September 1 to 15. In the list summoned by coach Mai Duc Chung, most of the faces have been with the team for many years, combined with 5 new players selected from the national championship.
According to Huynh Nhu, the Vietnamese women's team has a stable force, but still needs to be stronger to compete with opponents in the region.
Huynh Nhu still wins the trust of coach Mai Duc Chung
"The Philippine women's team, like other Southeast Asian teams, are developing. They have a naturalization policy, so it creates a big challenge for the Vietnamese women's team. I believe the coaching staff has a training plan. At the same time, in the future, I hope there will be overseas Vietnamese players to contribute to the Vietnamese women's team, during the period when we transfer forces," Huynh Nhu emphasized.
The Vietnamese women's team has won 4 consecutive SEA Games championships (2017, 2019, 2022, 2023), won the AFF Cup 2019, and the pinnacle is a ticket to the 2023 World Cup. However, competition in Asia is getting bigger and bigger.
The DPRK women's team has returned, the Philippines, Uzbekistan and Thailand have improved, while the "big sisters" South Korea, China, Australia and Japan still maintain a stable dominant position. This is a big challenge for the Vietnamese women's team, if they want to defend their title at the 33rd SEA Games (2025) and win a ticket to the 2027 World Cup.
