iPhone 17 Pro Max sold out in 5 minutes, retailers' online ordering sites crashed.

The high level of interest in the line caused many models in the iPhone 17 range to sell out quickly. Some retailers' websites were overwhelmed when pre-orders began.

At 7 PM on September 12th, Apple and its authorized dealers in Vietnam opened pre-orders for the iPhone 17 series, simultaneously with Tier 1 markets worldwide . As expected, the iPhone 17 Pro Max models, especially the new orange color, quickly sold out, with early delivery out of stock.

Meanwhile, most of the remaining models, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone Air, were available for purchase and delivery on the morning of September 19th.

Just 5 minutes after the program opened, Apple's expensive models were announced to be unavailable for early delivery on September 19th. With each passing minute, the time until iPhones are available is extended. However, the supply from the Apple Store Online is usually limited. In previous iPhone 15 and 16 launches, the most sought-after models also sold out quickly.

By 7:05 PM, the new orange iPhone 17 Pro Max was no longer available for delivery on August 19th.

At the same time, the product also launched a promotional program at authorized dealers in Vietnam. Previously, The Gioi Dien Dong (Mobile World) announced that they had nearly 100,000 customers who had left their information, waiting to place orders. After 7 PM on September 12th, a large number of these customers switched to making cash deposits.

FPT Shop did not disclose the number of customers who registered. Compared to its competitors, this retailer offers additional mobile network packages when customers purchase an iPhone together with their existing phone. This allows users to receive a discount on the product price.

Several other retailers also revealed the number of registrations and deposits. ShopDunk reported that over 51,000 users registered to receive notifications when pre-orders opened. Viettel Store, CellphoneS, and Minh Tuan Mobile also implemented pre-orders on their websites. Before the official launch, the websites of many systems such as Hoang Ha Mobile and Di Dong Viet also experienced access difficulties and intermittent connectivity issues.

A similar problem arose in previous years when iPhones went on sale at midnight. The large number of customers interested in Apple products put pressure on systems that weren't prepared. Additionally, limited supply in previous sales led users to prioritize pre-ordering to receive their devices on the release date of September 19th.

Besides consumers with genuine needs, a large number of "dealers" also compete to place orders to resell for profit.

However, according to Tri Thuc - Znews ' exclusive sources, the initial supply to Vietnam was not substantial. Domestic distributors had to "compete" for supplies with neighboring countries such as Singapore and Thailand.

Besides traditional retailers, e-commerce platforms like Shopee and Lazada are also opening pre-orders for the iPhone 17 through their own stores on the platform. These entities are also ranked equivalent to AAR dealers in Vietnam. Apple has also been a top revenue generator for online marketplaces in recent years.

The supply of devices in subsequent batches depends on sales in the initial phase. Apple calculates supply based on velocity, which is the number of activations relative to the total supply. The problem for domestic distributors is that users are only interested in the new models, the Pro Max series.

The remaining products in the device range often experience low demand and reduced velocity. Therefore, to receive the desired product, Vietnamese users may have to wait for months during periods of scarcity.
