Screen protectors are one of the essential accessories when using a smartphone. However, they are not designed to last forever. Environmental factors and daily habits will reduce their protective capabilities. In that case, users need to replace the screen protector to protect their phone screen.

According to BGR , cracks, scratches, or peeling are signs that the screen protector needs replacing soon. Other signs include visible scratches, unresponsive touch screen, and blurry images.

In some cases, users may find that the sticker is stained, has a layer of fog that cannot be wiped off, becomes discolored, or turns yellow due to the effects of sunlight.

Finally, peeling edges and the appearance of air bubbles also indicate that the old screen protector is no longer suitable. When the product is loose or has gaps at the edges, dust and sand can get inside, posing a risk of scratching the phone screen.

Choosing the right screen protector is also important. The market offers many types of screen protectors with different brands, prices, and characteristics, such as plastic, tempered glass, or a combination of both.

Users should choose screen protectors based on their habits, how they use their phones, and their budget. Tempered glass screen protectors are usually more expensive but offer higher durability and better resistance to impact and scratches.

Another popular type of screen protector uses TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) material. This type is relatively inexpensive and offers good durability, though not as good as tempered glass. Some models have the ability to self-heal minor scratches.

Finally, PET (polyethylene terephthalate) screen protectors offer the lowest overall protection but are the most cost-effective. Compared to the other two options, PET screen protectors are very thin, almost invisible when applied to the screen.

In general, users should choose a screen protector based on the level of protection and feel they desire. For example, tempered glass offers the highest level of protection, ideal for those who frequently drop their phones. This material also feels very similar to the phone's glass surface.

Regular replacement of patches is also related to bacteria. According to BGR , the average frequency for patch replacement should be once a year, depending on how worn the patch is.

Many patches have an antibacterial coating, which helps prevent bacteria and dirt from accumulating. After prolonged use, this coating can wear off, making it easier for bacteria to adhere to the surface.

Replacing the screen protector with an antibacterial one can help refresh the surface, providing extra protection against germs and dirt. However, users should still clean their phones regularly because the screen protector will not be effective against pathogens.

In addition to antibacterial properties, some screen protectors also offer blue light filtering, anti-glare coatings, and anti-peeping capabilities. Of course, these coatings can wear off over time. In this case, replacing the screen protector is a cost-effective and quick solution.
