Iran's Tasmim news agency reported on September 3 that "several Yak-130 training aircraft have entered the country and joined the Shahid Babaei air base in Isfahan" in central Iran.
Quoting the Iranian military's public relations (PR) department, Tasnim said the appearance of the Ykovlev Yak-130 aircraft is part of an "arms contract" between Iran and Russia.

Russia and Iran are both under international sanctions that have limited trade, but over the past year the two countries have strengthened ties in various areas, including military cooperation.
In March, Iran announced it had reached a deal to purchase Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets from Russia.
Ukraine and many Western countries accuse Tehran of supplying weapons to Moscow for use in the war in Ukraine. Iran has consistently denied the allegations.
Iran accuses Israel of plotting to sabotage missiles
In May, the US said Iran and Russia were “expanding defense cooperation to an unprecedented level”. US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said at the time that Iran had delivered more than 400 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Russia since August last year.
According to Mr. Kirby, Tehran is looking to buy attack helicopters, radars and Yak-130 aircraft from Russia.
Iran currently has mostly Soviet-era Russian MiG and Sukhoi fighters, as well as some Chinese aircraft, including the F-7.
Several US F-4 and F-5 fighters dating back to before the 1979 Islamic Revolution are also part of the country's fleet.
