That is the opinion of Professor, Doctor of Economics Georgy Toloraia, Executive Director of the National Committee for BRICS Studies, Director of the Russian Strategy Center in Asia, Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, on the occasion of Brazil, the country holding the rotating presidency of BRICS in 2025, recently announcing that Vietnam has officially become a "partner country" of BRICS - a group of emerging economies promoting global cooperation and international governance reform.
According to VNA, Professor, Dr. Georgy Toloraia emphasized that Vietnam has good relations with many BRICS members, has a strong position in ASEAN, a region with many members participating in BRICS. That helps Vietnam have good ability to participate in the initiative process. In addition, partner countries have the right to choose which format they find more important, more interested in to participate first, then gradually expand their participation. Professor Toloraia assessed that Vietnam is a very useful partner, partly a "model" partner for other countries based on the experience of cooperative relations with Russia, China... He hopes that this is the path for Vietnam to become a member of BRICS.
Commenting on the areas of cooperation that Vietnam can aim for and the prospects that Vietnam can achieve, Mr. Toloraia emphasized that there are many areas that Vietnam should participate in in the future. First of all, finance, establishing a new payment system; then energy, food, agriculture , where Vietnam has a lot of experience and many benefits; science and technology, Vietnam is developing very quickly and is interested in cooperation within the framework of BRICS in the field of new technology... In fact, Vietnam is a center, an important link in the logistics system, as well as having a long-standing culture and civilization.
