In recent years, with the timely attention and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, the provincial departments, branches, districts, towns, and cities; the close coordination of specialized departments, units in the industry, the work of developing plans and projects has ensured that they are suitable to the actual situation and the needs of developing high-performance sports in the province. The cause of Physical Education and Sports (ST&S) in Long An has made many advances and flourished: mass sports continue to be promoted; high-performance sports gradually affirm their position in the national arena, and are reaching out to the region.
One of the conditions to achieve the above results is that the Project Implementation Plan clearly shows solutions and specific instructions for departments to perform their tasks well.

Since the 6th National Sports Congress in 2010, the force of coaches and athletes has been consolidated and strengthened, the organizational structure has been perfected, the process of selecting, training and managing athletes has been carried out quite systematically, the quality of athletes has been increasingly high, providing many athletes for youth teams and national teams to participate in regional and Asian tournaments, Long An's sports career has made much progress, the competition achievements of Long An athletes have been increasingly improved in quantity and quality.
Specifically, the work of developing resolutions, decisions, projects and plans was carried out urgently and effectively, ensuring the assigned progress, creating the best mechanism for coaches and athletes of the province.
Over the years, the provincial sports sector has consistently contributed outstanding athletes to national teams at all levels. Most recently, in 2024, the province contributed athletes to compete for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at international tournaments, winning 02 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals.
In particular, athletes Tran Thi Nhi Yen (athletics) and Vo Thi My Tien (swimming) were granted special tickets to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics. Long An province competed in national tournaments and won 61 gold medals, 40 silver medals, 80 bronze medals, exceeding the plan by 65%; participating in regional and open tournaments, winning 8 gold medals, 15 silver medals, 28 bronze medals.
In addition, the province also hosted and coordinated 1 international tournament, 6 national tournaments and 3 regional tournaments. The tournaments attracted a large number of professional, semi-professional, amateur athletes and foreign athletes living and working legally in Vietnam. At the same time, it was also an opportunity to promote the image of Long An people and tourism to many domestic and international friends and tourists.
Regarding athlete training, the province has invested in sending athletes to National Sports Training Centers, linking and sending them to train in the following sports: Swimming, Athletics, Archery, Rowing at the National Sports Training Centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho.
Sending young athletes with potential to improve their performance in Swimming and Athletics to the National Sports Training Centers in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and Da Nang, thereby creating a source of typical athletes of the province to be summoned to train for the national team and youth team every year.
At the same time, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the province also opened a training course on "Professional training, updating modern sports training knowledge for managers and sports coaches of Long An province" with 35 managers and coaches of various sports participating.
In the following years, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to focus on promoting important tasks. In particular, implementing the recruitment of athletes for sports according to the project plan; Strengthening the training of specialized coaches for Archery, Weightlifting, Petanque, etc. Cooperating with the National Sports Training Center to open professional training courses for coaches of sports in the approved High Performance Sports Development Project.
Consolidate and develop resources, ensure quantity, improve the quality of staff, coaches, and athletes. In addition to the sports that are strengths of the province such as: Volleyball, Athletics, Swimming, it is necessary to consolidate activities of sports that have not achieved high results such as: Football, Table Tennis, Chess, Badminton and at the same time develop new sports: Weightlifting, Pencak Silat, Taekwondo, Traditional Martial Arts, Petanque, etc.
Focused investment on athletes and coaches capable of competing for medals nationally, regionally and in Asia; Strengthening cooperation with localities with strong sports movements domestically and internationally; Promoting professionalization and socialization of high-performance sports.
