Millions of people walk together, starting 1 billion steps into a new era

From 6:00 to 7:30 a.m. on August 16, more than 1 million people in 34 provinces and cities across the country put on red shirts with yellow stars, headed to the historic Ba Dinh Square to watch the national flag-raising ceremony and sing the national anthem, then walked together for a united, strong and sustainable Vietnam.

This is an activity within the national walking program "Moving Forward with Vietnam" jointly organized by Nhan Dan Newspaper and the Ministry of Public Security to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025), National Day September 2 (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) and People's Public Security Traditional Day (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025).

Attending the program launching ceremony at Ly Thai To Flower Garden (Hanoi) on the morning of August 16 were members of the Party Central Committee, co-Heads of the Steering Committee: Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association ; Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To, Deputy Minister of Public Security.

Also attending were Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Hai Binh; Major General Pham Kim Dinh - Director of the Department of Political Work, Ministry of Public Security, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee; representatives of leaders of units under the Ministry of Public Security, Hanoi City Police; representatives of ministries, departments, branches, central agencies...

At the connection points of 33 provinces and centrally-run cities, 3,121/3,321 communes, wards and special zones, there were the participation of leaders of local Party committees and authorities; leaders of the Public Security of provinces, cities, communes, wards and special zones; along with a large number of cadres, soldiers, compatriots and people nationwide.

With the message "1 billion steps into the new era", the program "Moving forward with Vietnam" is expected to mobilize the collective strength of millions of people across the country to join in walking, marking 1 billion steps for the health, solidarity and aspiration of a nation that is strongly transforming in the new era.

Since early this morning, thousands of officers, soldiers of the armed forces and people of the capital have been present at Ly Thai To Flower Garden - Hoan Kiem Walking Street to be ready to participate in a meaningful walking activity on an unprecedented large scale.

At exactly 6:00 a.m., a few minutes before the official Launch Ceremony took place, the program connected directly to the Flag Raising Ceremony at the historic Ba Dinh Square.

In a sacred, emotional and proud atmosphere, hundreds of thousands of people at connecting points nationwide followed the solemn footsteps of the Honor Guard performing the flag-raising ceremony, singing the National Anthem in unison, their hearts beating towards the Fatherland.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Party Central Committee member and Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Le Quoc Minh said: This is not only a sports event responding to the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" and the movement "Healthy to build and protect the Fatherland", but also a journey of millions of hearts beating together - a place where all generations and all classes of people from urban to rural, mountainous, remote areas converge...

Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security emphasized: The event is a practical start in the journey to promote the construction of a healthy living environment, improve physical and mental health, build a disciplined society, respect the law, security, safety, build a strong movement of the whole people to protect the security of the Fatherland; symbolizing the strength of national solidarity, the close relationship between the People's Public Security and the people.
