Science and kindness
On November 16, Minister Tran Duc Thang and a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment visited organic agricultural production and circular economy models of Que Lam Group in Phu Tho province.
Reporting to Minister Tran Duc Thang, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh - General Director of Que Lam Group informed: With a history of nearly 30 years pursuing the path of organic agriculture and circular economy, Que Lam Group has successfully built an ecosystem with 15 member units, including 8 organic fertilizer factories distributed evenly throughout the country. Every year, the Group's 8 fertilizer factories collect millions of tons of waste by-products from life, livestock, aquaculture, processing, cultivation... to turn into raw materials for the production of microbial organic fertilizers, contributing greatly to the source of microbial organic fertilizers according to the goals of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

In particular, through scientific research and practice, Farmer Scientist Nguyen Hong Lam - Chairman of Que Lam Group - Chairman of Vietnam Circular Agriculture Association has successfully researched the process of training farmers to do organic agriculture, circular economy according to multi-value chains. Hundreds of thousands of farmers in all provinces and cities have been trained to spread organic agriculture and circular economy. With exclusive microbiological technology from Japan, Que Lam Group and farmers have turned by-products that are an environmental burden in production into millions of tons of organic fertilizers for farmers. This circular economy has helped people improve and increase soil fertility, provide nutrients for crops, help reduce environmental pollution and not waste anything.

"The models of Que Lam Group are highly sustainable and completely unaffected by the epidemic," said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh. Photo: Khuong Trung.
“The models of Que Lam Group are closed in the chain from cultivation to livestock, bringing about efficiency in terms of economy, environment and sustainability. Particularly with livestock farming following Que Lam's model, farmers can increase profits by 25-30%. The models combining livestock and crop farming increase economic efficiency by more than 25% compared to conventional farming methods. In particular, the models are highly sustainable and completely unaffected by epidemics,” Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh reported.
Typically, at the 4F Organic Agriculture Complex, circular economy, and ecology of Guilin, the consistent development philosophy revolving around the axis of agriculture - social security - environment is clearly demonstrated. The 4F Complex (Farm - Food - Feed - Fertilizer) has a livestock and crop farming area, an organic fertilizer factory, animal feed production, and especially a farmer training area to practice agriculture according to the circular agriculture model.

Many leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment consider the 4F Complex as a large university for farmers and a core for training human resources for the agricultural sector. The farmer training process that Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam built was called by former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong as a revolution that "leaves no one behind"; Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan also affirmed that it is an ecosystem that aims for the noble value of a responsible agriculture.
“From a small seed, today Que Lam Group has become an organic agricultural ecosystem, a circular economy with widespread influence. From a dream, Que Lam has built a simple belief that Vietnamese agriculture can develop with kindness and science to bring multi-value to farmers and to society,” affirmed Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh.

Two proposals of the Minister
After inspecting the organic microbial fertilizer production models and biosafety livestock farming models of Que Lam Group, Minister Tran Duc Thang shared: Practice has clearly reflected what Que Lam as well as Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam personally have contributed to society, the country and especially to farmers in many localities.

“As the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, I would like to express my sincere thanks for those very kind and humane contributions. The contributions of Que Lam Group and Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam have helped the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment gain more important practical bases from a development model that has been proven to be on the right track and effective,” affirmed Minister Tran Duc Thang.
From that reality, Minister Tran Duc Thang has two "very important" suggestions.
Firstly, it is recommended that the National Agricultural Extension Center soon coordinate with the Que Lam Group to summarize the models and fully evaluate the results achieved. After summarizing and determining that the model is in the right direction and highly effective, the National Agricultural Extension Center needs to widely disseminate it to the commune-level agricultural extension system. Because from October 15, the agricultural extension system has been transferred from the district level to the commune level. In 3,321 communes and wards across the country, each commune will have 3-4 agricultural extension officers, ensuring that this team has full access to information and a clear understanding of the model, thereby promoting and encouraging people, cooperatives, and businesses to participate in replicating the model.
Second, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is preparing to implement the national target programs on new rural construction, sustainable poverty reduction and socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. The national target programs are very large in scale, requiring many good models and practices. With the practice that has clearly promoted effectiveness such as that of the Que Lam Group, specialized agencies under the Ministry can research to include in the implementation contents of the national target programs, at the same time supporting funding to expand the scale and promote the effectiveness of the models.

“Disseminating good models is also a way to bring more income to farmers, more prosperous agriculture, and a safer environment,” Minister Tran Duc Thang affirmed. Photo: Khuong Trung.
"Spreading good models is also a way to bring more income to farmers, more prosperous agriculture, and a safer environment," Minister Tran Duc Thang affirmed.
With sincere gratitude for the Minister's direction, Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam pledged to coordinate with specialized agencies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to contribute to building ecological agriculture, modern countryside, and civilized farmers.
Also according to the Chairman of Que Lam Group: When the Party and State position the agricultural and environmental sectors as advantages and pillars of the nation, Vietnamese farmers today can completely get rich from agriculture, can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the countryside, can protect their own health and bring value to the community.
“From the value chain of Que Lam Group, we have been working with farmers to build a circular agricultural economic ecosystem, taking people as the center and accompanying them to change their awareness, joining hands to build an agricultural ecosystem along the axis of agriculture - environment - society, together developing sustainably”, Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam shared.
