According to initial information, this group of people had a total of 10 members, all of whom were ethnic minorities from Cong Hai commune. They were working as hired forest cleaners and set up camp along Tuong Vy stream to spend the night. At 6 p.m. the same day, rocks and soil suddenly fell from above, burying them.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, Secretary of the Cam An Commune Party Committee, confirmed the landslide at 6:30 am this morning (November 17). The authorities quickly deployed rescue operations. By about 11:55 pm the same day, two victims had been taken out of the landslide area. However, according to Mr. Trung, as of 1:00 am on November 17, one person was still missing. The search had to be temporarily suspended due to dangerous weather conditions, high and strong water flows in the stream area, causing difficulties and dangers for the rescue team.
Mr. Trung said that the authorities will take the next steps and continue the rescue work this morning, when safety conditions are guaranteed.
