Iran's Tasnim news agency reported late on June 1st ( Hanoi time) that the Iranian negotiating delegation had decided to halt indirect peace talks with the US, accusing Washington of violating the ceasefire agreement reached between the two sides in April 2026 and Israel of expanding its attacks on Hezbollah forces in Lebanon.

According to Tasnim, the Iran-US agreement includes a ceasefire clause "on all fronts," including the situation in Lebanon. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later stated that Tehran considers Lebanon to be part of the fragile ceasefire agreement between the two countries.

On the same day, Iranian state television quoted a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declaring that they could "open new fronts" and continue the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz if Israel expanded its attack on Lebanon.

"Iran considers crossing the red line in Lebanon and Gaza to be tantamount to a direct war. In response, the IRGC will conduct defensive operations by taking other meaningful steps, opening new fronts, in addition to maintaining the balance in the Strait of Hormuz," the IRGC stated.

Following reports from Iranian media, CBS News quoted US President Donald Trump early on June 2nd (Hanoi time) as stating that he had not received any official information from Tehran regarding a temporary suspension of negotiations with Washington.

He stated that if the two sides did not negotiate, the US would "not bomb everywhere, but would simply remain silent, continue the blockade, because a blockade is a solid block of steel." When asked by the media whether he could wait until Iran made concessions, Trump replied, "I think I could wait as long as I like."

In a subsequent post on Truth Social, the US President reiterated that negotiations with Iran "are proceeding at a rapid pace."

Speaking to ABC News, Trump said he was confident a deal with Iran could be reached "next week." "There was a little hiccup today, but I fixed it very quickly," Trump said.

According to the US President, Iran was angered by Israel's attack on Lebanon. "I spoke with Hezbollah and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, asking them to stop shooting at each other. And both sides stopped firing at each other," Trump stated.
