Israel says it killed a senior Hamas official, US sends more B-52 bombers and ballistic missile defense destroyers

According to Reuters, on November 1, the Israeli army said it had killed a senior official of the Hamas Islamic movement, Izz al-Din Kassab, in an airstrike on the city of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

Israel described the figure as one of the last senior Hamas members responsible for coordinating with other groups in the Palestinian territories.

In another development, Sputnik News reported that the US has ordered the deployment of additional missile defense destroyers, fighter jets and attack bombers to the Middle East.

Pentagon press secretary Major General Pat Ryder announced on November 1: "In keeping with our commitments to protect American citizens and forces in the Middle East, defend Israel, and de-escalate through deterrence and diplomacy , the US Secretary of Defense has ordered the deployment of additional ballistic missile defense destroyers, fighter and tanker squadrons, and several US Air Force B-52 long-range strike bombers to the region."

Meanwhile, according to Sputnik News , the Hamas Islamist movement does not believe that the proposals for a temporary ceasefire and a partial prisoner exchange with Israel put forward by mediators meet the interests of the Palestinians.

A source in the Hamas leadership said on November 1: "The proposals do not meet the needs of our people regarding security, stability, rescue work as well as the restoration of normal activities at border crossings, especially the Rafah crossing."

According to the movement, "the proposal does not include a complete end to Israel's offensive, the withdrawal of occupying forces from the Gaza Strip, or the return of refugees to their homes."
