The escalating situation has led residents in the southern suburbs of Beirut – a Hezbollah stronghold – to begin leaving their homes due to fears that Israel will resume a large-scale military operation against the Lebanese capital. Meanwhile, in northern Israel, leaders of many communities along the Lebanese border have decided to close schools and kindergartens until further notice.
A senior US official revealed that Washington may soon "greenlight" Israel to expand its campaign against Hezbollah, after the group was accused of failing to comply with ceasefire warnings. According to the official, in the past eight days alone, Hezbollah has launched more than 1,000 drones and over 700 rockets into Israeli territory.
Meanwhile, regional media, citing Iranian sources, reported that Tehran had warned the US that any Israeli attack on Beirut could derail negotiations aimed at ending the conflict and moving toward a regional stabilization agreement.
Israeli military officials also acknowledge facing significant difficulties in dealing with Hezbollah's new wave of UAVs. According to an IDF official quoted by Israeli media, Hezbollah is increasingly using UAVs controlled by fiber optic cables with electronic jamming capabilities, rendering Israel's current defenses almost ineffective.
The current tensions persist despite the April 16 ceasefire aimed at limiting the spread of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah following the US-Israel war against Iran; however, cross-border fighting continues and has shown signs of escalating sharply in recent days.
